Job summary

Gonzaga University in Spokane invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Biology (Tenure-Track) starting August 16, 2027 to join our Neuroscience program. The successful candidate will teach, mentor, and develop a non-mammalian neuroscience research program with undergraduates.

  • Provide academic and career advising and mentoring to 153025 undergraduate students per year in the Neuroscience major, starting in the second year.
  • Support the Biology Department and Neuroscience major through service and other forms of academic citizenship, maintaining collaboration with the Psychology and Neuroscience Department.
  • Engage in professional activities that inform teaching, enhance student experience, and help the faculty member remain current in their field.
  • Maintain standards of professionalism.

Assistant Professor in Biology (Tenure-Track) – Beginning August 16, 2027

The Department of Biology at Gonzaga University seeks a neurobiologist specializing in research with model organisms to join our faculty. The role involves teaching, mentoring, and research in neuroscience.

Job Duties
  • Teach an equivalent of 9 credits each semester, typically 2 lecture sections and one or two labs per semester (1 credit each). Courses may include introductory biology courses (e.g., BIOL105, BIOL106) and upper‑division neuroscience courses.
  • Develop and maintain a successful neuroscience research program using non‑mammalian model organisms, providing quality research experiences to undergraduates.
  • Provide academic and career advising and mentoring to 15–25 undergraduate students per year in the Neuroscience major, starting in the second year.
  • Support the Biology Department and Neuroscience major through service and other forms of academic citizenship, maintaining collaboration with the Psychology and Neuroscience Department.
  • Engage in professional activities that inform teaching, enhance student experience, and help the faculty member remain current in their field.
  • Maintain standards of professionalism.
Qualifications – Required
  • A Ph.D. in Neurobiology or a closely related field.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate students in relevant courses.
  • Evidence of a research program that uses non‑mammalian model organisms.
Qualifications – Desired
  • At least one year of postdoctoral work or a similar experience.
  • Evidence of engaging, inclusive teaching at the undergraduate level.
  • Evidence of effectiveness in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students.
  • Evidence of peer‑reviewed scholarship.
