Job description

The Washington State University (WSU) Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS) seeks to fill a full-time continuous career track (clinical track) or permanent tenure track faculty position within the Neurology/Neurosurgery section of its Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH). The position is available immediately. Salary range is $145,000 - $200,000 depending on qualifications and level of experience and includes a generous benefits package. This position may be eligible for an additional stipend based on clinical service.
The VTH is a full-service referral and primary care center that aspires to be the country’s best academic veterinary hospital for patients, students, clients, colleagues, and community. The joint mission of the VTH and VCS is to improve the health and well-being of all animals through excellence in medical care, training future veterinarians, and finding innovative ways to diagnose and treat disease. Dedicated to this vision and mission are more than 60 full-time faculty members and 170 staff and house officers. Successful applicants will join a dynamic team with expertise in primary care practice, internal medicine, emergency and critical care, surgery, cardiology, and oncology. The VTH is the leading referral center in the state of Washington and the Pacific Northwest with over 20,000 patient visits per year as a regional tertiary care facility and provides the ECC service with a broad-based caseload.
The Neurology/Neurosurgery service is currently rebuilding and presently comprises a board-certified neurologist, a dedicated team of licensed veterinary technicians and a patient care coordinator. Neurodiagnostic capabilities in the VTH include in-house magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, and electrodiagnostic equipment including electroencephalogram. Our surgical facility is equipped with a full range of neurosurgical equipment including an operating microscope, a stereotactic brain biopsy system, and a Nico Myraid for tumor resection. Our physical rehabilitation facility is equipped with an underwater treadmill, electric muscle stimulator, therapeutic laser, therapeutic ultrasound and acupuncture and is under the supervision of a certified canine rehabilitation therapist and practitioner.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful applicant will provide clinical service within the Neurology/Neurosurgery service while providing clinical and didactic instruction of professional veterinary students, interns, and residents. Opportunities may exist for scholarship/research within the candidate’s area of interest. Successful applicants should be able to effectively communicate and work collegially and collaboratively with people of diverse backgrounds and demonstrate a commitment and relevant ability to successfully advocate for diversity and values of diversity and inclusion.
QUALIFICATIONS: The candidate must possess a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD) degree or a related foreign equivalent degree (such as a BVSc), and be board-eligible in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Neurology) (ACVIM) or the European College of Veterinary Neurology (ECVN), or board-certified, by the date of hire.
Considerations regarding faculty track and rank will be determined based on the interests and qualifications of the candidate, as will division of effort. For tenure track consideration, candidates must demonstrate a significant record of scholarship. Regardless of faculty track, candidates for Associate Professor and Professor should have evidence of progressively higher levels of experience and expertise in the provision of outstanding clinical service, clinical teaching, and/or research/scholarship.
