About the Opportunity

Northeastern is building research capacity around how peoplefunction in the most demanding and extreme environments, from orbitto the battlefield, to disaster response. Bouvé College of HealthSciences seeks applications for open rank tenure-track ortenure-on-entry positions beginning in academic year 2027-2028 or2028-2029. We welcome candidates from any relevant discipline, andthe tenure home will follow the candidates' training and experiencein one of the departments in the Bouvé College of Health Sciencesand a secondary appointment in the College of Arts, Media andDesign, College of Engineering, or College of Science.

This position will focus on the psychological, neurobehavioral,cognitive, social, or communication sciences that sustains theperformance of individuals and teams under extreme physical andcognitive loads, including the human-machines, and human-AI teamsincreasingly operating together in those settings, particularly asit relates to performance, resilience, and technology necessary forpeople and teams operating in extreme environments. The successfulcandidate will establish or expand a program of externally-fundedresearch in this area and will shape how Northeastern grows withit, with collaborators across health sciences, arts, media, anddesign, engineering, computer sciences, and the university'sresearch institutes. Our tenure and promotion process valuescollaborative research and teamwork. Hires will be mentored forsuccess, with mentoring teams and group guidance. In addition, astrong and effective faculty development strategy is part of theNortheastern institutional mission. The ADVANCE Office of FacultyDevelopment office works in conjunction with the Office of ResearchDevelopment (ORD), the Office of Belonging, the Center forAdvancing Teaching and Learning Through Research (CATLR), andUniversity Decision Support (UDS) to provide programs and trainingsto further develop and support a thriving faculty.

Responsibilities:

Research

• Develop or sustain an independent, externally funded program ofresearch.
• Pursue extramural funding.
• Publish in peer-reviewed venues and disseminate work toscientific, clinic, or public audiences.
• Mentor doctoral, master's, or undergraduate students inresearch, consistent with the tenure home programs.

Teaching

• Teach at the undergraduate, graduate, or professional level inthe candidate's area of expertise.
• Contribute to university degree and certificate programs.
• Advise and mentor students, including global studentpopulations.
• Contribute to curriculum development, course design, or programgrowth.

Service

• Contribute service to the department, college, anduniversity
• Participate in the profession through peer review, editorialwork, professional societies and organizations, or grantreview.
• Engage with community, clinical, operational, or industrypartners where relevant to the research program.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated track record of research in human performance,musculoskeletal / brain / physiological / cognitive, or relateddomains of health, in high-performance subjects or settings. Forexample, space, warfighter, austere or other extreme environmentsor contexts.
• PhD, ScD, EdD, MD, DO, PsyD or equivalent doctorate in relevantfields (e.g., exercise science, environmental or integrativephysiology, biomedical engineering, psychology/cognitive science,human factors, public health, medicine, data science, or relatedfield) by the employment start date.
• Demonstrated ability to work with all student populations andpromotion of experiential learning.
• Record of, or potential for, extramural research funding.

An associate rank appointment requires a minimum of 5 years ofacademic experience; a full rank appointment requires a minimum of10 years of academic experience.

Pay Range:

Assistant Professor: $104,000.00 - $143,000.00 | AssociateProfessor: $129,000.00 - $157,000.00 | Professor: $170,000.00 -$246,000.00
