Job description

The Statistics group in the Texas McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin is seeking applicants for an Assistant Professor, tenure-track position in Statistics.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in statistics, machine learning, and data science. It is expected that the faculty member will maintain an active research program, supervise graduate students, collaborate with other faculty, and be involved in service to the university and the profession.

The Statistics group within in the Information, Risk and Operations Management Department comprises 7 tenured and tenure-track faculty, with strong ties to the Department of Statistics and Data Sciences which houses another 8 tenured and tenure-track faculty. Opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations exist within McCombs and across the University. These collaborations are highly valued; current faculty have successful partnerships with researchers in the LBJ School of Public Affairs, the Dell Medical School, and the College of Liberal Arts, among others. The UT Austin Department of Statistics and Data Sciences has several open-rank faculty positions. Qualified candidates are welcome to apply to both departments and the searches will be conducted in a coordinated manner. As a campus with a continually growing diverse student body, we strongly encourage women, minorities, and individuals with a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion to apply.

Qualifications
Applicants are expected to have a demonstrated interest in developing and applying statistical/econometric methods relevant to policy analysis, social sciences and decision making. Areas of interest include (but are not limited to) causal inference with experimental and quasi-experimental or observational designs, policy evaluation and learning, and analysis with missing, censored, or truncated data. The minimum qualification is a doctoral degree; strong applicants whose primary degree is not in statistics, econometrics, machine learning, data science or a related area will also be considered, as long as their research exhibits independence and excellence in one of these areas.

All applicants should submit a cover letter, a CV, and a statement of research interests, and should arrange for three confidential letters of recommendation to be provided via Interfolio. All faculty recruiting at the University of Texas is carried out via Interfolio. Applicants should not submit any supplemental material. However, applicants’ CVs should include links to a web site (or sites) where all papers and software packages listed on the CV can be downloaded.
