Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree required; Tier I Educational Leadership preferred.
  • Valid Georgia Educational Leadership Certificate at level 5 preferred.
  • Three years of educational experience required.
  • Strong written and oral communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using computer systems and data-informed decision making.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
  • Assists principal in enforcing policies related to student discipline and attendance.
  • Keeps principal informed of activities and developments affecting school operations.
  • Assists in staff supervision, observation, and evaluation; supports curriculum and instruction.
  • Supports staff development and extracurricular supervision; safeguards student health and welfare.
  • Supervises student activities and coordinates orientation, registration, scheduling.
  • Assists with school facilities maintenance and operations.
  • Supports total school program and participates in budgeting as needed.
  • Serves on District Student Disciplinary Due Process Hearing panels when needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

The Cobb County School District is the second largest school system in Georgia and among the largest in the United States, serving over 103,000 students, 112 schools, over 18,000 employees and a $1B annual general fund budget.

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Assists the principal to provide effective leadership and guidance in the operations of the school.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Educational Level: Master’s Degree required. A Master’s Degree with Tier I Educational Leadership preferred.
  • Certification/License Required: Valid Georgia Educational Leadership Certificate at level 5 preferred. A Master’s Degree and completion of the GACE Georgia Ethics for Educational Leadership (380) Assessment (http://gace.ets.org/ ) will be accepted. Completion of an Educational Leadership program within 3 years will be required.
  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years successful educational experience
  • Physical Activities: Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities
  • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Written and oral communication, leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills, computer competence, instructional strategies that connect the curriculum to the learners, student management

The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
  • Assumes responsibility in the absence of the principal; assists in the enforcement of policies concerning student discipline and attendance.
  • Keeps the principal apprised of activities, situations, and developments that effect the school operation.
  • Assists in the supervision, observation, and evaluation of staff; assists with directing and improving curriculum and instruction.
  • Assists with the organization and implementation of staff development; assists in the supervision of extracurricular program; assists with safeguarding the health, safety, and welfare of students.
  • Supervises student activities, assemblies, and other activities; assists in organizing student activities; assists with the supervision of student orientation, registration, and scheduling.
  • Assists with the maintenance and operations of the school facility.
  • Assists with the administration and supervision of the total school program in accordance with applicable regulations; assists with the financial operation of the school, as needed; demonstrates consistent appropriate fiscal management of funds.
  • Serves as a member or facilitator of District Student Disciplinary Due Process Hearing panels, as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.

The Assistant Principal has important responsibilities in the school community. As such, the actions of this position are potentially subject to a high degree of public and community scrutiny and must always reflect the efficient and effective use of resources. The candidate must demonstrate operational and financial acumen and deal sensitively and responsibly with the community, central office departments, various groups and organizations, and a diverse community.
