Job summary

Norfolk Public Schools in Norfolk, MA, seeks an Assistant Principal for Freeman-Kennedy School (Grades 3-6) to support leadership, instruction, and student well‑being. The role includes serving as the school’s Section 504 Coordinator and ensuring compliance with applicable laws.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate educational leadership, strong communication, organizational, and decision‑making skills, with a deep understanding of curriculum, school law, and the diverse needs of students.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Education with Educational Leadership or equivalent.
  • Massachusetts DESE Principal/Assistant Principal licensure (PreK-8 or PreK-6) is required; SEI Endorsement is required.
  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience (Elementary or Middle School level preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum, instruction, child development, and relevant school laws and regulations is crucial.
  • Leadership and team building, effective oral and written communication, conflict resolution and problem-solving, organization, ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, data analysis and instructional coaching, technology proficiency in Microsoft Office/Google Workspace
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, high ethical standards and professionalism, collaborative leadership style, student-centered mindset and dedication to continuous improvement
  • Authority: Reports to the Building Principal & Superintendent of Schools
  • Work Year: 220 Days

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of a systematic communications process to disseminate information about the school.
  • Support teachers with discipline and maintain detailed records of disciplinary referrals.
  • Assist in the recruitment and selection of staff.
  • Assist in overseeing the school bus transportation system and act as a liaison between school, parents and bus drivers.
  • Assist in the effective supervision and evaluation of teachers and staff.
  • Assist in the preparation for monthly faculty meetings.
  • Assist in the responsibility for health, safety, and welfare of the children and staff within the school environment.
  • Implement and monitor Chapter 504 regulations.
  • Facilitate 504 meetings.
  • Assist in establishing the master schedule for staff.
  • Participate in the district’s administrative team meetings.
  • Build positive relationships with students, families, and staff members.
  • Make sound decisions under pressure, maintain confidentiality and exercise professional judgment.
  • Promote an inclusive, equitable, and positive school culture.
  • Conduct other staff duties and responsibilities as directed by the principal, or the Superintendent of Schools, including administering the school in the absence of the building principal.

Title: Assistant Principal
Location: Freeman-Kennedy School (Grades 3-6)
Summary: The Assistant Principal assists the Building Principal in the overall leadership, administration, and daily operations of the school. Responsibilities include supervising and evaluating building staff, fostering a positive and inclusive school climate, supporting high-quality instruction, and promoting student achievement and well-being. The Assistant Principal also serves as the school’s Section 504 Coordinator, ensuring compliance with applicable federal and state laws. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong educational leadership, excellent communication, organizational, and decision‑making skills, and a thorough understanding of curriculum, instruction, school law, and the diverse academic, social, and emotional needs of students.

Qualifications
  • Education: Master’s Degree in Education with a concentration in Educational Leadership, Administration and Supervision (or equivalent).
  • Certification: Valid Massachusetts DESE licensure as a Principal/Assistant Principal (Prek-8 or Prek-6) is required. Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement is required.
  • Experience: Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience (Elementary or Middle School level preferred).
  • Knowledge: Strong knowledge of curriculum, instruction, child development, and relevant school laws and regulations is crucial.

Salary Range: $104,000 – $115,000
