Job summary

FirstEnergy's portfolio program is expanding to support a 10-year capital plan, including transmission, substation, network, and security projects.

As an Assistant Portfolio Engineer, you will coordinate with planning engineers, client management, and sponsors to develop long-range plans, create conceptual estimates, and support PJM rate filings and project budgets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
  • Engineers in Training (EIT) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate planning portfolio with engineers, client management, and sponsors to shape the long-range plan.
  • Incorporate synergies across projects into the portfolio of work.
  • Attend budget planning meetings with client stakeholders and align with the 10-year plan.
  • Determine budget year for transmission projects based on feasibility, budget, and need.
  • Review client sponsors' projects with proper justification.
  • Create conceptual estimates and schedules with sponsors and project managers.
  • Support development of the 10-year plan and rate filings for PJM.
  • Review engineering estimates for accuracy and scope.
  • Interface with accounting to set up financials for projects.
  • Create analyses and reports to track progress.

Assistant Portfolio Engineer

  • Pay Rate: $40.00–$43.56 / Hour (USD)

Job Summary

The FirstEnergy Program is expanding to support FirstEnergy's increased capital spend and shift to a 10-year capital portfolio. Staff on the portfolio team will assist with the assembly of transmission line, substation, network, and physical security projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Daily interface and coordination with planning portfolio engineers, client management, and client sponsors to develop the long-range integrated portfolio plan based on existing projects and planning strategies
  • Ensure synergies across projects are incorporated into the portfolio of work
  • Attend budget planning meetings with different client stakeholders (general managers, supervisors, etc.) and ensure the incorporation of the long-range plan
  • Work with multiple client stakeholders to determine budget year for transmission projects based on feasibility, budget, and need
  • Review client sponsors' projects and ensure project is supported by proper justification
  • Create conceptual estimates and schedules by working with sponsors and Project Managers on their requests
  • Support the client in the development of the 10-year plan
  • Help create and compile the client's rate filing for PJM
  • Review tabletop engineering estimates for accuracy and scope
  • Work with outage coordination to assemble a set of regional projects that do not cause conflicts including incorporating project constructability and the long-term plan
  • Informal mentoring and training of client's portfolio engineers on T&D Design and projects
  • Interface with client's accounting group to establish financial setup for projects
  • Create analyses & reports to assist the client in tracking, coordination, and execution of projects
  • Build baseline scopes, schedules, and budgets to be released to multiple client stakeholders
Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program (Required)
  • Engineers in Training (EIT) Certification (Preferred)

  • Excellent communication skills and professional etiquette
  • Ability to coordinate projects across multiple organizations during project initiation
Preferred Skills
  • 1-year field assignment to Akron, OH preferred; will discuss support from BMcD office with monthly travel to Akron, OH
