Job summary

As an Assistant Plant Manager, you will help foster a safe, collaborative, and thriving environment at our Airgas facility. Partnering with site leadership, you will guide daily operations, mentor team members, and contribute to our commitment to safety, health, and environmental standards. In this role, you will support site operations when needed, nurture team growth, and collaborate on continuous improvement projects. Ideally, you bring a supportive, detail‑oriented approach, a passion for building positive relationships, and a desire to facilitate shared success. Ensure that the plant and staff operate in accordance with the Airgas Safety Pledge and ensure full compliance with Airgas Safety policies. Partner with the team to achieve Airgas safety, health, environmental, and quality goals. Implement and support programs to achieve targeted goals. In the absence of the Facility Manager, you will step in to support site security, safety, and operations. Guide, support, and mentor team members to help everyone perform at their best. Conduct performance reviews and nurture career growth to help team members develop for future opportunities. Foster an inclusive and supportive environment while building positive employee relations. Develop clear procedures and offer training to support regulatory and company requirements. Collaborate on projects to enhance efficiency and productivity. Facilitate team activities and nurture project completion. Track team progress toward shared goals and facility objectives . Conduct orientation and supportive onboarding for new staff and line managers. Ensure completion of all reporting and record‑keeping requirements. Foster a culture of safety, health, environmental, and quality excellence across the team. Responsible for monthly product inventory reconciliation and end of month cylinder counts. Continuously explore ways to improve the Airgas site operations.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Business Management or related field preferred and/or combination of college level courses in science, math or technical subjects; OR at minimum 3‑5 years of experience in a gas cylinder operations environment. 3+ years prior supervisory experience. 5+ years prior operations/plant experience. Strong communication, verbal and written skills. Understanding of financial reports, budgetary methods and forecasting.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Occasionally (1‑33% of work time); Must have reliable, appropriate transportation.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Intermediate knowledge of Google Suite applications (Google Sheets, Google Docs, etc.) or equivalent software.

COMMUNICATION and/or CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees and/or customers. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals using the English language.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent's.
