BYU–Hawaii invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor in Biology within the Faculty of Science. The position emphasizes undergraduate teaching with a balanced expectation for scholarly activity and service at the university.

The successful candidate will hold a doctorate in Biology or a related field (ABD near completion considered) and may be eligible for a continuing faculty status, with an anticipated Fall 2027 start in Laie, Hawaii.

Qualifications

  • A doctorate in Biology or related field is required. Foreign equivalent degree from a nationally accredited institution accepted.
  • BYU–Hawaii prefers to hire qualified members of the Church in good standing, as authorized under Church policies.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching requirement is typically 30 semester credit hours per year over three semesters in some of the following subject areas: Introductory Biology or Chemistry, Human Anatomy or Physiology, Ecology or Marine Biology, Statistics, Cell Biology.
  • Scholarship: Faculty are expected to remain professionally and academically engaged through research or creative endeavors and ongoing professional development.
  • Citizenship: Faculty are expected to contribute actively to the university community and their profession.

  • As an educational institution affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Church), BYU–Hawaii prefers to hire qualified members of the Church in good standing, as authorized under 41 C.F.R. § 60-1.5 (a)(6). To be eligible for employment, applicants who are members of the Church must hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend and receive a clearance from the Church’s Ecclesiastical Clearance Office.
Benefits
  • Salary range: 121K to 131K, depending on credentials (highest degree earned), rank and experience.
  • Housing stipend.
  • relocation expense package is provided.
  • Annually renewable contract eligible for Continuing Faculty Status (BYU-H equivalent of “tenure-track”).
  • Standard BYU-Hawaii benefits package for regular full-time employees.

Starting Date: Fall 2027
