Job summary

Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center in Missouri is seeking a Nurse Manager for the Behavioral Health inpatient units. The role coordinates patient care, staffing, and operations, ensuring safety and quality in a Magnet-designated facility.

Evening shifts, occasional long hours, and a sign-on bonus up to $15,000 are offered along with a full benefits package. RN with BSN and 2–5 years supervisory experience in inpatient psychiatry is required.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
• RN license required.
• 2–5 years RN experience; supervisor experience preferred.
• Inpatient hospital Behavioral Health experience preferred.
• Evening shifts available (5-8 hr or 4-10 hr with weekly management call).

Responsibilities

• Manages individual(s): hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development.
• Ensures productivity aligns with department goals; may participate in staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets.
• Responds to business changes to meet budget goals; provides patient care according to planned interventions and documents per policy.
• Creates and implements a collaborative care plan based on assessment and medical treatment.
• Supports review of staff hours and overtime disposition.
• Perform and approve daily payroll updates.
• Reconcile time cards, bonus tracking and coding approval.
• Prepare, coordinate and execute staff communications; lead huddles and meetings.
• Determine staffing needs; assign nursing duties and overtime.
• Recommend annual increases; interview staff; conduct performance reviews; issue corrective actions.
• Conducts performance evaluations; safety-sensitive position as per policy.

With a safe, patient-centered approach to Psychiatric care, we deliver high-quality care using group activity and music therapies, one-to-one care as needed, and an interdisciplinary team in state-of-the-art patient care units.A combined total of 46 inpatient beds exist across Intensive, Medicine and Geriatric Psych units. The Psychiatric Medicine unit offers a unique opportunity to work in an environment that combines medical and Psychiatry. Intensive Psych allows our team to work with those who are acutely ill.

The Geriatric unit is for those who truly have a passion for the elderly population in Psych. The team in Psychiatry is a well-rounded group caring for patients with a wide range of Psychiatric illnesses. Safety is a high priority, with numerous safety measures in place for patients and staff.

Role Purpose

Coordinates patient care, personnel management, maintenance of equipment, equipment purchased, and statistical accumulation.

Responsibilities

• Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans.


• Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.May participate in the development of departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets and having direct responsibility for adhering to those goals.


• This includes responding to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.Provides and oversees patient care according to planned interventions with regard to their age and developmental needs to attain the patient's optimal level of wellness and documents according to policy.Creates and ensures implementation of a collaborative plan of care based on assessment, diagnosis and medical treatment.May support the review of staff hours worked vs scheduled hours and determine appropriate disposition if variation exists.


• Perform and approve daily payroll updates.


• Reconcile time cards, bonus tracking and coding approval.


• Prepare, coordinate and execute all staff communications; prepare huddle agendas and lead meeting.


• Determine staffing needs; make nursing assignments as well as assign overtime.


• Recommend effective annual increases. Interview staff for open positions; evaluate and conduct performance reviews as assigned; draft and issue corrective actions/coaching; follow up regarding any disciplinary action to determine compliance.Responsible for staff productivity and the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.


• Conducts performance evaluations and makes recommendations on areas of improvement if needed.BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
