Job summary

Responsibilities

The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) is a clinical leadership position. The ANM provides clinical supervision and coordinates unit clinical operations with other departmental disciplines under the direction of the Nurse Manager. The Assistant Nurse Manager has oversight accountability for patient care and nursing practice on their assigned shift and unit(s). This includes but is not limited to delivering high-quality clinical outcomes, positive patient experience and engaging with staff in a consistent and financially responsible manner. The ANM shall act as a leadership extension of the Nurse Manager and shall act in coordination with their specified responsibilities. ANMs shall adhere to all Stamford Hospital’s policies and procedures, including the Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance Program and provide safe and therapeutic care using the values inherent in our hospital culture. This position will maintain clinical competency by participating in patient care and doing EP cases. This position will work with Lead Cardiovascular Technologist for communication and safety of EP equipment.

  • Supervises the daily delivery of patient care on assigned unit/area.
  • Executes on all patient experience, safety and patient care protocols including but not limited to patient rounding, staff rounding for compliance and patient safety surveillance.
  • Supports the activities related to patient throughput and Length of Stay (LOS).
  • Provides real-time coaching to support clinical effectiveness.
  • Provides constructive feedback to employees on performance issues, administers initial corrective actions in collaboration with the nurse managers, and participates in monitoring for performance issues.
  • Collaborates with leadership to support employee engagement and retention.
  • Makes recommendations on cost savings opportunities.
  • Prepares schedule of work assignment assuring appropriate coverage on all shifts.
  • Consistently uses sound financial judgment in managing labor and non-labor resources.
  • Provides ongoing clinical evaluations of nurses and other direct and indirect patient care providers on assigned unit/area as designated by the Nurse Manager.
  • Provides support with new personnel on orientation, continuing education, and in-service educational programs.
  • Participates in interviewing, selecting, and appraising the performance of employees.
  • Participates in and supports quality improvement projects, outcomes studies and research initiatives; participates in committees as assigned.
  • Supports and promotes hospital-wide and unit specific initiatives & goals (e.g., Planetree, Magnet, Joint Commission Disease specific certifications).
  • Facilitates communication and collaboration among unit staff and other departments regarding issues related to patient care.
  • Ensures continuity of patient care information between shifts, coordinates patient admitting, discharges, transfers, and other operational issues.
  • Performs service recovery and communicates patient plan of care reflecting patient issues and proposed interventions to achieve desired patient outcomes.
