Nexstar Media Group Inc. in Charleston, WV is seeking an Assistant News Director to support the News Director in managing all aspects of the news, weather and sports programming.

The role leads planning, staffing, training and performance evaluations for the News Department and mentors staff. You will develop coverage strategies, review and critique newscasts, and assign projects while ensuring deadlines are met and ratings goals are pursued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism or related field or equivalent combo of education and experience.
• Fluency in English with excellent oral and written communication.
• Minimum two years’ experience in news programming production, with leadership experience preferred.
• Ability to coach, mentor or develop others to improve knowledge or skills.
• Proficiency with office equipment and standard software tools; ability to meet deadlines and multitask.

Responsibilities

• Assist News Director with management of all aspects of the News Department (excluding Production).
• Help plan staffing, training and performance evaluations; participate in hiring decisions as needed.
• Develop news coverage strategy for the station and its website; critique newscasts to improve coverage and mentoring feedback.
• Assign projects to staff, verify deadlines, and ensure viewer rating goals are achieved; oversee equipment needs for quality programming.

## Assistant News DirectorApply: WV, Charleston: Full time: Posted Today: REQ-43381The Assistant News Director assists the News Director with all aspects of news, weather and sports programming production, and serves as the News Director in his/her absence. * Assists the News Director with management of all aspects of the News Department (other than Production.)* Assists with planning, staffing, training, and performance evaluations for the News Department.* Consults on decisions regarding hiring, evaluation, promotion and termination of employees.* Develops news coverage strategy for the station and its website.* Critiques newscasts daily to correct errors, improve coverage and provide mentoring feedback to news staff.* Assigns projects to staff and verifies that deadlines are being met.* Ensures achievement of viewer rating goals.* Determines programming and evaluation of equipment needs to produce quality programming.* Responds to coverage questions.* Serves as the News Director in his/her absence.* Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements & Skills: * Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.* Fluency in English.* Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.* Minimum two years’ experience in news programming production, with some leadership experience preferred.
