Job summary

Ivy & Karma, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Miller to support the safe, efficient operation of oat milling processes, focusing on receiving, cleaning, and by-product handling. The role includes hands-on training to develop skills toward advancing to a Miller position.

You will help maintain production yields, product quality, and adherence to food safety, occupational health and safety, and environmental requirements. The position requires teamwork and a commitment to quality and safety.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience in grain milling, food manufacturing, or industrial operations preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude and basic troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to operate mobile equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate oat milling production lines in accordance with established standard operating procedures.
  • Monitor and control process parameters, including equipment operation, material flow, and product quality.
  • Adjust equipment settings as needed to maintain product specifications, improve yield, and support efficient operations.
  • Complete production records and required documentation accurately and on time.
  • Conduct routine inspections, cleaning, and basic maintenance of process equipment.
  • Identify operational or mechanical issues and promptly communicate concerns to the Director of Operations.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary conditions throughout the facility.
  • Perform routine housekeeping duties, including sweeping, vacuuming, wiping down equipment, removing waste, and controlling debris.
  • Follow all food quality, HACCP, and sanitation policies and procedures.
  • Comply with occupational health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate production, quality, and operational records.
  • Support material handling for raw materials and finished products as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with Maintenance, Quality, and Packaging teams.
  • Provide operational support and coverage for the Miller role as needed.

This role includes structured, hands-on training to build the technical skills needed to support mill operations and grow into a Miller position. The Assistant Miller helps maintain strong production yields, consistent product quality, and compliance with applicable food safety, occupational health and safety, and environmental requirements.

Work Environment
  • Ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 lbs. as needed.
  • Exposure to outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform elevated work from platforms, ladders, and scaffolding as required.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required in all production areas of the facility.
  • This position requires extended periods of walking, standing, and moving throughout the facility.
  • Occasional extended hours, weekends, and/or on-call availability may be required to support plant operations and workforce needs.
  • Employees must be clean-shaven when performing tasks that require respiratory protection.
