Job summary

DICK'S Sporting Goods is seeking an Assistant Buyer to support merchandising across categories and work with merchants to develop effective assortments. You will participate in the Merchandise Assortment Process and apply financials to drive category performance.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in marketing, merchandising or business, 1–3 years of related experience, and prior Assistant Buyer experience preferred.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience in retail or merchandising.
• Previous experience as Assistant Buyer (1–2 years) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist merchants in developing category assortments and apply the Merchandise Assortment Process with financials.
• Own in-season category performance by monitoring results and recommending actions to drive sales and margin.
• Prepare and maintain store floor plans and assortment sheets; ensure accuracy of reports and receipts.
• Communicate inventory quantities and orders to Allocations & Planning to support planned sales initiatives.
• Research market trends and data to anticipate opportunities and inform buying decisions.
• Coordinate store communications on initiatives and mentor Merchandise Administrators, MTPs, and Interns.

OVERVIEW

Role Responsibilities

• Assist the merchants in the in-depth development of merchandise assortments by category, collaborating on every aspect of the process. Sit with the merchant to go through the Merchandise Assortment Process and apply financials.
• Assume responsibility of in-season category ownership by monitoring performance, identifying opportunities and barriers and making recommendations to drive for business results (buy more of/cancel future orders/price changes).
• Prepare and maintain recommended merchandise floor plans and game plans for the store locations. Ensure accuracy of merchandising reports, assortment sheets, and receipts.
• Recommend and communicate inventory quantities, levels and orders to the Allocations & Planning Departments in support of planned sales for our strategic initiatives.
• Research economic, financial, market, competitive and industry data to explain current business trends and anticipate new trends or big ideas; including market visits
• Manage store communication regarding initiatives (varies by dept.)
• Trains and mentors Merchandise Administrators, MTPs, and Interns.
