Job summary

Allan Myers Inc. in the Mid-Atlantic region seeks a trainee to rotate through the Shops, gaining exposure to all aspects of the department under experienced mentors. You’ll participate in maintenance, inspections, repairs, and safety training to build hands-on skills.

The program emphasizes safety, teamwork, and practical learning across heavy equipment, undercarriage work, and rebuilds, with focus on DOT/state inspections and field maintenance to support project execution.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or Trade School preferred.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Must be able to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
• Strong computer skills and ability to learn new software; Excel preferred.
• Ability to keep sensitive material confidential.

Responsibilities

• Rotate through departments in Shops with a mentor for each rotation to gain experience.
• Learn safe and efficient heavy equipment maintenance with lead PM technicians.
• Perform or assist with fluid and filter changes and sample fluids for analysis.
• Learn safe maintenance practices for trucks and conduct safety inspections (DOT/state).
• Assist with field repairs for paving and dirt operations and with undercarriage, GET, teardown & assembly.
• Learn welding basics and assist with cutting, fabricating, and torch work.
• Participate in winter rebuilds for paving equipment, including teardown and parts orders.
• Assist with re-assembly of wear items and learn parts ordering processes.

• PM Team
• Learn best practices for safe & efficient heavy equipment maintenance while working with lead PM technicians
• Perform/assist with fluid & filter changes
• Sample fluids and analyze results
• Truck
• Learn best practices for safe & efficient medium & heavy truck repair and preventative maintenance
• Perform/assist with safety inspections; learn DOT and State Inspection requirements
• Perform/assist with repairs to maintain truck uptime, e.g. tires, brakes, air suspension, component changes, etc.
• Field (Paving & Dirt)
• Learn best practices for safe & efficient heavy equipment repair in a field operation
• Perform/assist lead mechanic with field repairs, e.g. undercarriage, G.E.T, teardown & assembly, etc.
• Field equipment includes dozers, excavators, articulated haulers, track & wheel loaders, pavers, rollers, support vehicles, etc
