The Plantation Course at Kapalua – Assistant Mechanic

Located in Lahaina, HI, the Plantation Course at Kapalua offers a career opportunity within a fast‑paced, hospitality-focused property organization. We seek a driven individual eager to learn, contribute, and grow.

General Purpose

Performs major and mechanical repairs on gasoline, diesel, and electric power equipment; keeps all equipment efficient and operable at all times. Organizes and maintains a clean, safe maintenance area and performs related tasks as required.

Essential Duties
  • Inspect, adjust, diagnose, and repair mechanical defects in various equipment.
  • Perform machining or welding work to create fittings used in equipment repair, and fabricate parts as needed.
  • Maintain records of preventative maintenance, repairs, and parts ordered.
  • Stay up–to–date on light and heavy construction, maintenance equipment, and automotive apparatus.
  • Use a wide variety of repair tools and perform mechanical repairs.
  • Understand theory, care, and operation of internal combustion engines, electric equipment, and hydraulic systems.
  • Diagnose mechanical troubles and schedule appropriate preventative maintenance.
  • Incorporate safe work practices in all tasks.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Repair and overhaul a variety of automotive equipment incidental to primary duties; may supervise others.
  • Troubleshoot and problem‑solve independently.
  • Ensure all equipment complies with safety standards and regulations.
  • Adhere to safety protocols while operating equipment and tools.
Education/Experience
  • Certificate from college or technical school; or up to 3–5 years of related experience, training, or equivalent combination.
  • Must own hand tools.
Physical Demands

Frequent standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and occasional sitting, climbing, or balancing. Regular speaking and hearing. Lifting up to 10 pounds routinely and up to 100 pounds occasionally.

Environment/Noise

Work may involve wet or humid conditions, toxic or caustic materials, extreme temperatures, vibration, outdoor weather, electrical shock risk, fumes, airborne pathogens, moving mechanical parts, and loud noise levels.

Certificates/Licenses
  • Valid Driver’s License, Class 3 License.
  • Mechanics Certificate from Gas and Diesel Engine Training Seminar or related experience/training; or equivalent combination.
Job Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Preferences

Ability to read and speak English, as communication with English‑speaking customers, coworkers, and manual reading may be required.

Compensation

Union position – $35.03 per hour.
