Job summary

GPM Investments’ Village Pantry in Paxton, IL is seeking an Assistant Manager to drive daily store operations. You will oversee customer service, cash handling, scheduling, and inventory, while leading a team across second and third shifts on weekends and holidays.

You’ll engage customers, coach staff to upsell, and ensure a clean, well-stocked store. This role requires reliability, a valid license, and a Food Safety Certification with growth potential in a fast-paced retail setting.

Qualifications

• Must be able to work weekends, holidays and second or third shifts.
• Must have valid driver’s license, access to a personal vehicle, and proof of insurance for deposits.

Responsibilities

• Support the Store Manager in day-to-day operations.
• Run the register and assist customers with speed and accuracy.
• Coach and motivate team members to upsell products and promotions.
• Assist in hiring, training and leading a high-performing team.
• Act as acting manager when the Store Manager is off.
• Handle inventory, ordering and merchandising to stay stocked.
• Maintain a clean, welcoming store including restrooms and pumps.
• Create and manage team schedules for full coverage.
• Perform daily cash handling and deposits; oversee store financials.
• Provide feedback and leadership to motivate the team.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Open Availability: You must be available to work weekends, holidays, and likely second or third shifts.
• Reliable Transportation: You must have a valid driver's license, access to a personal vehicle, and proof of insurance to complete bank deposits.
• Physical Readiness: Comfortable with tasks such as cleaning restrooms, taking out trash, and maintaining outside areas like pumps.
• Minimum Age Requirement: 21+ years old
• Communication Skills: Proficient in English with basic math skills.
• Willing to Learn
• Certification: Must have (or be able to obtain obtain) a Food Safety Certification
