Job summary

Excel Fitness Roanoke is seeking a Club Operations Manager to lead a team at the assigned location, ensuring adherence to Excel and Planet Fitness policies. You will assist the GM with staff scheduling, training, onboarding, and daily club operations to deliver world-class member service.

Qualifications

  • Accountable for the hiring process, from selecting candidates, interviewing process, and ensuring onboarding documentation is filled out to our standards.
  • Train and develop new team members.
  • Ensure all Team Players stay up to date on certifications and scheduled training requirements.
  • Counsel and Discipline team member performance. Supervise, inspire, motivate, and coach staff to perform to their best abilities.
  • Support GM with monitoring KPI goals and metrics for the club.
  • Support the GM to audit/approve HRIS items, including payroll items, timecards, bonus submissions, time off requests, onboarding/offboarding tasks, and job requisition postings.
  • Assist GM with conducting Team Player Assessments (TPAs) and competency evaluations.
  • Maintain availability while off shift to be a direct contact to help field operational questions and emergencies.
  • Required to be on call during Peak Season/Sale Expirations to support club needs.
  • Oversee club operations and staff when GM is off or unavailable.
  • Represent our company at community events and outreach activities.
  • Lead regularly scheduled team meetings.

Description

Reports to: General Manager (GM)

Department: Club Operations

Purpose: Helps manage a team of employees in a designated location, ensuring compliance with Excel and Planet Fitness policies, practices, and objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist GM in planning and implementing strategies to attract and keep members based on our Excel Core Values while maintaining a positive culture.
  • Accountable for the hiring process, from selecting candidates, interviewing process, and ensuring onboarding documentation is filled out to our standards.
  • Train and develop new team members.
  • Ensure all Team Players stay up to date on certifications and scheduled training requirements.

  • Support GM with monitoring KPI (Key Performance Indicators) goals and metrics for the club.
  • Support the GM to audit/approve all HRIS items, including but not limited to payroll items, timecards, bonus submissions, time off requests, team player onboard and offboarding tasks, and job requisition postings.
  • Support the GM to ensure a clean facility with a great atmosphere and world-class member service, including but not limited to:
    • Perform daily club inspections, and assign cleaning or associated tasks along with re-inspecting said tasks.
    • Enter work orders into the Computer Maintenance Management System to ensure the facility and equipment are serviceable for members.
    • Hold Team Players accountable for meeting company standards, audit daily paperwork, and resolving day-to-day member issues.
    • Manage club inventory and communicate with GM and HQ on placing necessary orders.
  • Assist GM and back office with marketing and promotional activities for the club.
  • Work with GM and/or solely create club schedule and edit/verify payroll items (and associated commissions if applicable).
  • Make sure all Team Players adhere to company policies and guidelines and address any minor infractions. Report all major infractions with GM and HR to formulate a plan to address them.
  • Audit club inventory and communicate with the General on recommendations for inventory orders.
  • Assist GM with conducting Team Player Assessments (TPAs) and competency evaluations.
  • Maintain availability while off shift to be a direct contact to help field operational questions and/or emergencies.
  • Required to be on call during company Peak Season/Sale Expirations when needed to support club needs.
  • Accountable for overseeing club operations and staff when the GM is off or unavailable.
  • Assist GM and represent our company at community events and other outreach activities.
  • Assist GM with conducting and leading regularly scheduled team meetings.

Additional Personal Training Responsibilities (if applicable):

  • Assist the Personal Training Manager (PTM) in planning and implementing strategies to attract and keep members based on our Excel Core Values while maintaining a positive culture.
  • Support PTM with monitoring Key Performance Indicators (KPI) goals and metrics for the club.
  • Communicate with PTM to ensure all Personal Trainer (PT) certifications are current and help drive the performance of pe@pf and personal training sessions.
  • Support the PTM to audit/approve all HRIS items, including but not limited to payroll items, timecards, bonus submissions, time off requests, team player onboarding and offboarding tasks, and job requisition postings.
  • Assist the PTM to audit/approve all HRIS items for Personal Trainers, including but not limited to staying at the approved Service Hours, accurate PT session pay, timecards, commissions, bonuses, etc.
  • Work closely with the Regional Personal Training Manager (RPTM), Personal Training Revenue Manager (PTRM), and PTM to develop and track KPIs to actively monitor and push the health of the Personal Training department.

Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • HS diploma or equivalent required.
  • CPR/AED certification required. Uncertified Team Players will be given the opportunity to complete CPR/AED training within the first 30 days of employment.

Supervisory Responsibility: This position will help oversee up to 20 Team Players at one location. Assists in handling the performance management and hiring of all Team Players. Will ensure the team can adequately exhibit and maintain all Excel values, principles, and duties, and meet established club performance metrics.

Work Environment: This job works in a fitness club environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, fax machines and phones, as well as standard custodial equipment such as cleaning chemicals, floor scrubbers, and vacuums. The noise level in the club environment may be loud on a regular basis.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that a Team Player must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Regularly required to talk and hear.
  • Frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Must frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move objects up to 75 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time, exempt position. Under the Regulations, Part 541, an exempt Team Player is one who is not entitled to the minimum wage or overtime pay protections of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Standard work days and hours are either Friday through Monday between 11am-10pm or Monday through Thursday between 1pm-10pm and Sunday between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. This position may work outside of the established work schedule for the GM and any Team Player shifts to ensure the club is open and running smoothly. Work hours may include the weekends and/or overnights as needed and are subject to change at any time depending on business needs.

Travel: Up to 5% travel is expected for this position to attend employee events, trainings, and conferences.
