Manages team members, operations, and patient care activities of a patient care unit during assigned shift. Maintains a professional work environment that supports delivery of high-quality patient and family centered care.

Job Responsibility
  • 1.Manages and leads team members, operations and patient care activities within a patient care unit during assigned shift.
  • 2.Collaborates with team members and nursing management in the development of methods, techniques and analytical approach to patient care.
  • 3.Communicates, builds consensus, and guides team members toward achieving department objectives.
  • 4.Promotes and maintains high quality patient and family centered care in a healing environment.
  • 5.Creates a professional work environment that encourages team member respect, engagement, accountability and optimal patient outcomes.
  • 6.Promotes appreciative inquiry and evidence-based, ethical and compassionate practice.
  • 7.Provides direction and guidance to patient care unit team members during assigned shift.
  • 8.May conduct performance reviews and provide input into hiring, promotions and corrective actions.
  • 9.Serves as a role model for standards of professional practice (clinical, educational and leadership).
  • 10.Educates team members in new and existing department procedures and systems (information systems, fiscal responsibility, etc.).
  • 11.Provides input on department budget allocations to nursing management.
  • 12.Ensures adherence to the established care delivery model, using knowledge of scope and standards of practice.
  • 13.Facilitates continual patient care unit compliance with the JC, CMS, New York State, DOH, Public Health Law, HIPPA regulations and System, hospital and department standards.
  • 14.Demonstrates core clinical competencies for patient population of oversight in order to supervise and provide direct patient care.
  • 15.Maintains current knowledge of scope and standards of practice, healthcare legislation, and population health.
  • 16.Interprets policies, procedures and technical methods for team members.
  • 17.Identifies opportunities and makes recommendations that improve patient care delivery and team effectiveness using evidence-based strategies and solutions.

Job Qualification
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State, required.
  • Specialized certifications, as needed.
  • 4-6 years of nursing experience and 0-2 years of leadership/management experience, required.
