Job summary

Nippon Steel in Seymour, IN seeks a Full-Time Quality/1st/indirect Manager to coordinate QA functions, supplier quality, and in-house quality activities. The role focuses on inspections, testing, and process improvement in a plant environment.

Responsibilities include managing supplier audits, PPAP submissions, and NDT programs, with involvement in metallurgy and corrective actions. Strong QA and ISO/IATF experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree plus five years’ related experience preferred.
• Experience with QA processes and measurement tools.
• Familiarity with IATF audits and quality systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate quality and assurance functions including incoming material inspections, process audits, sampling strategies, testing, and finished goods inspection.
• Oversee customer complaint process and corrective actions.
• Implement total quality management principles and use statistical tools to reduce variability.
• Coordinate development, implementation, and maintenance of quality systems for certifications (e.g., JIS, ISO9002, QS9000).
• Manage supplier quality activities: supplier complaints, SQAM, supplier site audits, and PPAP submissions.
• Lead in-house quality and continual improvement efforts; track issues and develop corrective actions.
• Oversee non-destructive testing programs; pursue Level II and Level III certifications; ASNT practices.
• Support IATF audits, process audits, and annual assessments as assigned.
• Drive metallurgy investigations, sample evaluation, and CQI improvement activities.
• Fill in for manager: meetings, staff direction, procurement approvals, and department reporting.
• Review and approve internal deviations; prepare monthly department performance reports.
• Support QE investigations in customer complaints as needed.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Coordinates Quality and Assurance functions, to include incoming material inspections, process/procedural audits, determining sampling strategies and methods, final testing, and inspection of finished goods. Determines types of tests to be performed and documentation and reporting requirements.
• Customer complaint process, to include overseeing corrective action to be taken.
• Implementation of total quality management (TQM) principles including use of statistical tools to measure and reduce process and product variability.
• Coordinates development, implementation, and maintenance of quality systems designed to support and maintain various certifications, e.g. JIS, ISO9002, QS900, etc.
• SUPPLIER QUALITY

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Exposure to loud noise levels, dust, heat and cold and various chemicals while in plant area (lubricants, cutting fluids, drawing oils). Stooping, reaching, climbing and lifting up to 50lbs. Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time. Hardhats, long sleeves, safety shoes, earplugs and safety glasses are a requirement to be worn at all times while in the plant.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree plus minimum five (5) years’ job-related experience preferred.
• Ability to use various gauging and measuring tools, micrometer, caliper, lab equipment (roundness tester and contour tracer).
