Job description

At Boll & Branch, we believe that luxury starts with care — for our customers, our communities, our teams, and our craft. We’re looking for an Assistant Store Manager (ASM) who embodies this philosophy by creating warm, memorable experiences and supporting a high-performing team.

As the ASM, you are a critical partner to the Store Manager, helping bring the Boll & Branch experience to life every day. You’ll contribute to running the store as if it were your own business — coaching our Brand Ambassadors, nurturing customer relationships, and ensuring our store environment feels elevated, welcoming, and beautifully maintained. When the Store Manager is away, you step confidently into leadership, ensuring consistency and excellence.

This role reports to the Store Manager.

What You’ll Do:
  • Lead With Hospitality
  • Serve as the host in your store — greeting guests warmly, listening deeply, and helping them design spaces they love.
  • Set the tone for an elevated yet comfortable experience, rooted in genuine care and welcoming service.
  • Foster a culture of “unreasonable hospitality” where every interaction – with customers and your team – feels personal and memorable.
  • Create elevated experiences for our customers through our in-store, in-home and virtual design consultation program.
  • Support & Grow the Business
  • Partner with the Store Manager to run the store with a shopkeeper mindset — taking ownership of store performance, customer experience, and daily operations.
  • Monitor business metrics, identify opportunities, and execute action plans that drive sales, profitability, and community connection.
  • Maintain impeccable visual and merchandising standards — recognizing that every touchpoint is a reflection of our brand’s integrity.
  • Develop a deep understanding of Boll & Branch products, materials, and sustainability story — using this expertise to educate customers and coach the team.
  • Develop & Inspire the Team
  • Lead by example on the sales floor — demonstrating elevated service, hospitality-driven selling, and proactive customer engagement.
  • Mentor and coach Brand Ambassadors through daily touchpoints and ongoing development conversations.
  • Provide real-time feedback, celebrate wins, and support performance improvement when needed.
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, and training efforts to build a team that embodies integrity, curiosity, and hospitality.
  • Help create a culture of accountability, positivity, and teamwork — where people grow, contribute, and feel proud of their work.
  • Be a Connector in the Community
  • Support the Store Manager in building relationships with local partners — interior designers, real estate professionals, boutique hotels, universities, and more.
  • Participate in community-driven initiatives like neighborhood outreach, design events, and in-store experiences that strengthen local presence.
  • Contribute ideas that help position the store as a trusted community hub for design, hospitality, and inspiration.
  • Act as a brand steward and local ambassador — helping customers discover what makes their community special.
  • Ensure Operational Excellence
  • Act as the primary leader when the Store Manager is not present — ensuring smooth operations, high standards, and sound decision-making.
  • Help manage controllable expenses such as payroll, supplies, and inventory to maximize profitability.
  • Maintain strong visual standards, housekeeping excellence, and inventory accuracy.
  • Perform opening/closing procedures, daily reconciliation, and operational tasks with precision.
  • Communicate and uphold company policies, procedures, and initiatives across the team.
What You Bring:
  • 2+ years of experience in a retail leadership role, ideally in luxury, home, lifestyle, or experiential retail.
  • A natural host with an enthusiastic, welcoming personality and a genuine love for creating exceptional customer experiences.
  • Strong leadership skills — able to coach, motivate, and retain a diverse team of full‑time and part‑time Brand Ambassadors.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to partner on strategy, think critically, and take proactive action to improve results.
  • Strong communicator and trainer with the ability to inspire confidence and share product knowledge effectively.
  • Experience with consultative selling and a passion for helping customers design meaningful spaces.
  • Understanding of specialty retail operations, business development, clienteling, visual merchandising, HR basics, and cash management.
  • Tech-savvy with intermediate knowledge of Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Meet), Word, Excel, and in-store retail systems.
  • Ability to stand for long periods, reach overhead, lift up to 50 lbs., and climb ladders/stepstools.
  • Ability to travel to the corporate office or nearby stores when needed.

The annual base salary range for this role is $58,000 to $80,000. New hires are typically brought in between the minimum and midpoint based on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role. Base salary is one part of a total rewards package. In addition to your base compensation, you may be eligible to be part of the Company’s annual bonus program with a non‑binding Company and individual performance‑based target bonus.

This role is not eligible for relocation assistance. Additionally, Boll & Branch will not commence an immigration case or "sponsor" an individual for this position (for example, H-1B or other employment‑based immigration).

The above is a comprehensive, but not exhaustive, description of requirements and expectations that may evolve over time based on business needs. You must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life/AD&D insurance
  • Commuter Benefits, HSA/FSA, STD/LTD, and Employee Assistance Program
  • Family-Planning Services, Gender‑affirming healthcare, and Health Advocacy Program
  • Fitness Reimbursement Program, 401(k), Paid Time Off, and an Employee Discount
Who We Are:

At Boll & Branch, we don’t make bedding like everyone else. We make it better.

In 2014, our founders, Scott and Missy Tannen, challenged every conventional standard in the textile industry, creating a new supply chain that prioritized thread quality, not thread count. By investing exclusively in 100% organic raw materials from the start, we became the first bedding company ever to be Fair Trade Certified. Today, we keep five commitments at the heart of everything we do. We are:

  • Cultivators of the Highest Quality Threads
  • Pioneers in 100% Organic Cotton
  • Free from Toxins at Every Step
  • 100% Traceable from Farm to Finish
  • Committed to Fair and Ethical Treatment for All

Boll & Branch has over 250 employees, and we are headquartered in Summit, NJ, with a second office in New York, NY and a dedicated Photo Studio in New Providence, NJ. In 2019, to propel our growth, we raised $100M from L Catterton, a leading consumer goods private equity fund. We are also progressively expanding our retail and wholesale footprint. While the heart of our business lies in the direct‑to‑consumer online model, we also have several retail stores around the country as well as partnerships with Bloomingdales and Nordstrom.
