Duke Clinical Research Institute is seeking an Assistant Manager to oversee daily operations of rehabilitation services clinics, providing leadership to rehab staff on clinical and operational issues and collaborating with the manager on service area activities.
You will supervise staffing, scheduling, training, and competency orientation, support budget oversight, ensure quality and regulatory compliance, and mentor clinicians through change and growth.
Manage daily operations of assigned rehabilitation services clinics/units to ensure work is accomplished safely and effectively. The Assistant Manager provides leadership to rehab staff on service‑specific clinical and operational issues and collaborates with the manager/director on clinical and non‑clinical operations related to the designated service area. Responsibilities include supervising, directing, coaching, and mentoring staff.
Operations: Maintain appropriate staffing levels, develop and approve staff schedules, ensure staffing needs and assignments are made according to workload, staff competency, and scope of practice. Delegate responsibilities within scope and competencies, provide treatment as needed, and plan and coordinate clinical requirements for staff. Ensure competency‑based orientation requirements are current, facilitate patient flow and throughput, coordinate training and equipment use, aid budget oversight, and resolve workflow issues.
Staff onboarding & development: Lead and facilitate the interview process and selection of new staff, consult with preceptors and orientees, oversee personnel actions including hiring, coaching, performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, and terminations. Provide support and education on policies, procedures, equipment, and supplies, mentor staff, assess performance of new hires, and teach new technologies and procedures.
Quality: Facilitate service recovery activities, provide clinical consultation and guidance, support regulatory compliance, review and follow up on SRSs, and round on patients and families to validate services. Supervise and coordinate delivery of patient care for assigned areas and facilitate staff participation in committees.
Leadership: Promote open communication, encourage staff participation in decision‑making, resolve conflict, foster collegiality, communicate professionally, and represent the department at committee meetings.
Candidates must possess teaching abilities, leadership qualities, professional judgment, critical thinking, problem solving skills, and a sense of professional development. Must demonstrate multi‑tasking ability, knowledge of the scope of the rehabilitation disciplines, appropriate application of the rehabilitation process, and professional theory, practice, and procedure. Ability to assess rehabilitation needs of acute and chronic patients, seek resources, collaborate, and communicate clearly with patients, families, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, and leadership. Must be able to teach patients and families, use sensory and cognitive functions, fine motor skills, BLS, document assessments and care plans, use computers, navigate the entity, remain organized, and undergo pre‑employment physical capacity testing.
Required: Graduate from an accredited Bachelor's program in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Pathology, or Audiology. Masters or Doctorate in one of these disciplines preferred.
Minimum 5 years of relevant clinical experience for a Bachelor’s Degree holder; 3 years for Master’s or Doctoral Degree holders.
Current North Carolina licensure and any applicable certification or registry to practice the respective modality.
