Job Description
Primary Purpose: Assist the F&NS High School Manager in leading the high school campus food service operation, ensuring appropriate quantities of food are prepared and served, meeting time constraints set by menu requirements, and upholding safe food handling standards.
Qualifications
- Education and Certification: High School Diploma or GED; Successful completion of Irving ISD Food & Nutrition Services Manager Trainee Program; ServSafe or other approved Food Protection Manager (FPM) certification; Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License and proof of insurability with District insurance carrier.
- Special Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of methods, materials, equipment, and appliances used in food preparation; Ability to work with a variety of fresh and processed meat products and their derivatives, including beef, poultry, pork, fish, and shellfish; Strong organizational, communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills; Ability to supervise, manage, and coach personnel; Ability to interact successfully with internal and external customers daily; Ability to be flexible and adapt to change; Ability to perform duties with minimal direct supervision; Ability to interpret procedures and analyze data for effective decision‑making; Ability to safely operate commercial food service equipment; Proficient computer and office equipment skills; Ability to speak and understand Spanish, preferred.
- Minimum Experience: Two years of food service experience and related training, required; One year of management and supervisory experience, preferred.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Develop work schedules for staff and oversee duty completion.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal laws, District policies, and procedures.
- Maintain safety, sanitation, and security systems and procedures to protect customer and staff health.
- Exercise safe and accountable control of funds.
- Achieve department customer service imperatives daily.
- Operate the kitchen fiscally responsibly and within established financial management guidelines.
- Implement marketing methods and practices to create an inviting customer atmosphere.
- Ensure all meals served in the School Nutrition Program meet nutritional standards and meal pattern requirements, including special diet meals.
- Purchase food and supplies in accordance with policies; oversee receipt, inventory, handling, and storage.
- Assist in selecting and dismissing employees and manage staff per policies.
- Provide training, recognition, and maintain a positive work environment.
- Counsel and discipline employees as needed, ensuring complete and accurate documentation.
- Exhibit professional, ethical, and responsible behavior as a role model.
- Perform other duties as assigned and contribute to safety improvements.
- Supervise and evaluate performance of Food Service Assistants and Technicians.
- Handle mental and physical demands such as continuous standing, lifting up to 30 pounds unaided, exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals, loud noises, and other occupational hazards.
