Auto Ramp Services (ARS) is a proud part of Professional Transportation, Inc. which has been providing services for railroads since 1980 and has an industry reputation for providing quality, reliable, and safe auto loading and unloading services. ARS is a contractor providing top notch quality control service to the railroad industry. The railroad provides PTI with a location that unloads and warehouses new and used vehicles for the trucking industry to pick up and deliver to the dealer. ARS unloads the railcars according to industry standards and daily meets or exceeds our customers’ expectations. ARS also provides 24-7 gate administration / checkpoint services for the facility while daily engaged in inventory control.

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for safe and quality handling of customer and company property, specifically, movement of vehicles on/off railroad equipment. This position works outside in all types of weather, driving, and unloading vehicles to and from rail cars.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensuring that policies and procedures set forth by the company and our customer are followed.
  • Coordinating the day-to-day activities of unloaders and checkpoint personnel (scheduling, working with trucking companies, etc.).
  • Monitoring and assisting with the performance of your unloaders, actively taking part in the unload processes.
  • Monitoring and making sure checkpoint follows procedure for inventory control (scanning out loaded inventory).
  • Maintain the lines of communication between the company and our railroad customers.
  • Being responsive to the needs of our customers while the schedule varies from day to day to ensure compliance.
  • Promoting and practicing safety awareness
  • Daily reporting and communication with the customer
  • Safely work outdoor in all types of weather conditions.
  • Safely adjust rail cars to set up unloading out of the rail cars.
  • Safely move vehicles off the rail car to set up for pick up or shipment.
  • Drive both manual and automatic transmission vehicles, including oversized vehicles.
  • Work in tight and narrow spaces.
  • Participate in job briefings with the Supervisors and crew prior to work beginning.
  • Wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), such as safety vest, or high vis shirts, safety glasses at times, hearing protection and safety toe boots, when required.
  • Maintain clear communication with other crew members while moving vehicles.
  • Inspect all rail equipment and vehicles to ensure there is no damage and notify the operator and supervisor immediately if damage is found.
  • Handle all rail equipment and vehicles in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Maintain awareness and organization within the auto yard facility, attention to the ground surfaces to include (potholes, debris and/or slippery conditions).

Requirements
Our ideal candidate must:
  • Full Time position
  • Must be available to work weekends and some holidays
  • Early morning start time @ 7:00 AM
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule and be dependable
  • Ability to operate related computer applications and related business equipment
  • Be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and an extensive background check
  • Have a valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Physically demanding position and due to the nature of the environment; requires bending, squatting, leaning, and moving plates to span rail cars.
  • Must be able to see and hear moving equipment.
  • Not be afraid of heights
  • Must be able to learn and follow very strict guidelines and to instruct employees of the same
