Qualifications

  • Ability to travel to IU School of Medicine regional campuses to deliver in-person instruction as required.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a liaison to Terre Haute campus and develop relationships with Terre Haute faculty, staff, students, and campus leadership through pre-scheduled campus visits.
  • Provide reference and expert searching services to support research, clinical practice, and medical education.
  • Develop curriculum, course development, training, and workshops for IU School of Medicine students, faculty, and staff.
  • Contribute to university- and campus-wide initiatives to develop policies, services, and infrastructure for research services.
  • Collaborate with faculty on teaching, grants, manuscripts, papers, or poster presentations.

Salary and rank depend on the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The minimum salary is $60,000.

Based in Indianapolis, IN, the Ruth Lilly Medical Library seeks a dynamic, collaborative, and talented Liaison Librarian. This position will plan, promote, and provide instruction and information services that support the needs of students, residents, faculty, researchers, and staff at the Indiana University School of Medicine (IU School of Medicine). In addition to serving as liaison to the Terre Haute IU School of Medicine campus, the successful candidate will have an opportunity to develop a specialty area that reflects their interests and expertise while advancing established priorities of the School of Medicine and the Library. This is a tenure-track faculty position reporting to the Associate Director for Public Services.

IU School of Medicine is located in Indianapolis on the Indiana University Indianapolis campus. RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serves as a liaison to the Terre Haute campus. The librarian will be based in Indianapolis but will develop strong relationships with Terre Haute faculty, staff, students, and campus leadership through pre-scheduled campus visits.
  • Serves as a liaison to departments/groups across our nine‑campus statewide system
  • Contributes to university- and campus‑wide initiatives to develop policies, services, and infrastructure to support research services through collaboration with IU School of Medicine faculty and staff.
  • Provides and contributes to curriculum, course development, training, and workshops for IU School of Medicine students, faculty, and staff.
  • Provides reference and expert searching services to support research, clinical practice, and medical education.
  • Conducts literature searches and supports systematic reviews. This may include consultation and instruction related to systematic reviews, scoping reviews, and other forms of evidence synthesis.
  • Participates in a team approach to providing prompt and effective consultation, instructional services, and reference expertise to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Cultivates partnerships and collaborates with faculty on projects including teaching, grants, manuscripts, papers, or poster presentations.
  • Contributes to the overall development and innovation of the library and the profession by participating in library, campus, university, state, regional or national meetings, committees, workgroups, and task forces or by representing the library.
  • Develops a full network of contacts within assigned liaison areas (departments/units, institutes, regional IU School of Medicine campuses, and centers) and anticipates and meets their information needs.
  • Identifies opportunities for library partnerships within IU School of Medicine and Indiana University at large.
  • Works with others to develop and revise programs and services to respond to changing information needs.
  • Maintains current knowledge of the trends and issues in biomedical research, higher education, scholarly communication, artificial intelligence, research practice, and health care.
  • Pursues an active and ongoing career plan in the areas of job performance, professional development/research, and service.   • Designs and implements a plan for continuing education, continuing professional development and actively contributes to the development of health sciences librarianship through scholarly and service activities.
  • Contributes to departmental projects and initiatives as needed to support organizational goals.
  • Participates in other projects and initiatives as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
  • Required: ALA -accredited Master’s degree or an equivalent advanced degree in a relevant field at the time of hire.
  • Experience or training in delivering instruction at the college/university level
  • Ability to work in a collaborative work environment and maintain positive professional working relationships with faculty members, supervisor, and peers
  • Demonstrated ability to design accessible written learning materials, and clarify complex research requests in consultations.
  • Ability to travel to IU School of Medicine regional campuses to deliver in-person instruction as required.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Additional Qualifications
  • Preferred: Two years of professional experience in a health or sciences library or equivalent experience (e.g., graduate internships or other equivalent experience)
  • Ability to maintain knowledge on a broad range of biomedical and healthcare research topics
  • Record of scholarship, teaching, and/or active membership in a professional organization
  • Experience providing reference services
  • Experience with promoting or developing emerging technology services
  • Experience teaching evidence-based medicine concepts
  • Experience with conducting expert searching and/or systematic reviews.
