Working shift for this position is Thursday - Saturday and every other Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

Job Summary

The Inventory Control Shift Manager manages, controls, and directs all inventory control operations, including Receiving, Stockroom, Shipping, and Inventory Analysis. This position is responsible for ensuring inventory accuracy, operational efficiency, employee development, cost control, customer satisfaction, and full compliance with company safety, quality, security, and operational requirements. The role provides leadership to Inventory Control teams by recruiting and retaining qualified employees, establishing measurable performance expectations, delivering ongoing coaching, and developing training and succession plans. The Shift Manager monitors operational metrics, attendance, training documentation, project timelines, and individual development goals while promoting accountability, recognition, teamwork, and continuous improvement. The Inventory Control Shift Manager also develops and executes strategies that support campus and Workcell objectives. This includes analyzing trends, improving data collection and measurement systems, eliminating non-value-added activities, managing departmental costs, facilitating physical inventories, and implementing efficient processes and work instructions. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong leadership, communication, analytical, customer-service, and problem-solving skills. The individual must be able to lead large teams during challenging situations, communicate effectively with employees and senior management, respond promptly to internal and external customer concerns, protect confidential information, and ensure consistent adherence to Jabil policies and procedures.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Participate in interviewing, evaluating, and selecting qualified candidates who meet operational and cultural expectations.
  • Coach Inventory Control leaders and staff on consistent, professional, and effective interviewing and hiring practice.
  • Partner with Human Resources and recruiting teams to monitor open positions, candidate progress, and staffing needs.
  • Monitor employee turnover and identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and implement retention strategies based on employee feedback, operational needs, and turnover analysis.
  • Evaluate staffing levels regularly and develop hiring plans to maintain adequate operational coverage.
Employee and Team Development:
  • Identify individual and team strengths and development needs on an ongoing basis.
  • Create and/or validate training curriculum in area of responsibility.
  • Coach and mentor Inventory Control staff to deliver excellence to every internal and external customer.
  • Create and manage succession plans for Inventory Control function.
  • Recognize employee contributions and communicate team accomplishments to leadership and the department.
  • Ask relevant questions and encourage employees to provide feedback, share ideas, and participate in discussions.
  • Recognize individual communication preferences and adjust the communication approach to support understanding and engagement.
  • Facilitate weekly communication meetings to exchange departmental information, updates, concerns, and ideas.
Performance Management:
  • Establish clear measurable goals and objectives by which to determine individual and team results (i.e. operational metrics, results against project timelines, training documentation, attendance records, knowledge of operational roles and responsibilities, personal development goals).
  • Solicit ongoing feedback from Workcell Manager (WCM), Business Unit Manager (BUM), peers and team member on team member’s contribution to the Workcell team. Provide ongoing coaching and counseling to team member based on feedback.
  • Recognize employees’ contributions and accomplishments, express appreciation for their efforts, and foster a work environment where team members feel valued and proud of their performance.
  • Perform team member evaluations professionally and on time.
  • Drive individuals and the team to continuously improve in key operational metrics and the achievement of the organizational goals.
  • Coordinate the activities of large teams, establish clear priorities, and maintain focus, communication, and operational continuity during critical or high-pressure situations.
  • Ensure recognition and rewards are managed fairly and consistently in area of responsibility.
Communication:
  • Communicate operational priorities, performance expectations, process changes, and safety requirements clearly across all shifts.
  • Maintain effective shift pass-downs to ensure open issues, risks, and action items are communicated accurately.
  • Provide timely updates to senior management regarding performance, staffing, inventory concerns, and operational challenges.
  • Escalate safety, quality, inventory, and production-impacting issues through the appropriate channels
  • Communicate decisions consistently to prevent confusion or different expectations between teams and shifts.
  • Document coaching conversations, process changes, and important operational decisions when required.
  • Collaborate effectively with Manufacturing, Planning, Logistics, Human Resources, and external partners.
  • Encourage open communication while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Resolve conflicts constructively and promote respectful communication throughout the department.
  • Verify that employees understand instructions by requesting feedback and following up on execution.
Functional Management Responsibilities
Business Strategy and Direction:
  • Know and understand the campus strategic directions.
  • Define, develop and implement an Inventory Control strategy, which contributes to the campus strategic directions.
  • Develop an understanding of the Workcell business strategy as it pertains to Inventory Control.
  • Provide regular updates to BUM, WCM, and Operations Manager on the execution of the strategy.
Cost Management:
  • Identify creative ways to reduce cost by streamlining processes and systems (i.e. modification of responsibilities or consolidation of tasks, elimination of non-value-added processes, or complete re-engineering of processes and systems).
  • Utilize tools to monitor departmental cost and cost trends, striving continuously to improve value.
  • Provide feedback to peers (BUMs, WCMs, Functional Managers (FMs) on cost and cost trends.
Technical Management Responsibilities:
  • Drive continuous improvement through trend reporting analysis and metrics management.
  • Assess the adequacy of data gathering methods utilized by the workcells.
  • Assure that procedures and work instructions are efficient and not redundant.
  • Offer new ideas and suggestions for improvement. Identify and implement new practices and processes
  • Demonstrate a commitment to customer service; anticipate, meet, and exceed expectations by solving problems quickly and effectively; making customer issues a priority.
  • Facilitate any physical inventories as necessary.
  • Establish new measurement systems if/where possible.
  • Exchange knowledge and information with other Jabil facilities to ensure best practices are shared throughout the Jabil organization.
  • Ensure 100% adherence to all company policies and procedures (i.e. Health and Safety, Quality).
  • Ensure all sensitive and confidential information is handled appropriately.
  • Read, analyze, interpret and communicate regarding common scientific and/or technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Adhere to all safety and health rules and regulations associated with this position and as directed by supervisor.
  • Comply and follow all procedures within the company security policy.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret and communicate regarding common scientific and/or technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Advanced PC skills, including training and knowledge of Jabil’s software packages.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Strong knowledge of global and regional logistics operations and industry.
  • Strong proficiency in determining logistics requirements to enable company’s business goals and objectives with ability to devise and implement strategy to achieve targets.
  • Strong financial and analytical ability. Proficiency in managing business analytics to determine optimum company footprint.
  • Strong knowledge of international direct and indirect taxes as well as global customs regimes.
  • Proven track record of successful change management accomplishments, implementing and management continuous productivity and cost reduction programs.
  • Strong and convincing communication skills.
  • Proficiency in use of personal computers, Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word and PowerPoint) and e-mail skills required.
Education & Experience Requirements
  • HS Diploma and three years' experience, including one year in supervisory role; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Or a combination of education, experience and/or training.
