Job summary

Franklin Park Public Library District is seeking an energetic, caring and creative individual to assist our Head of Youth Services in running the Youth Services Department. The ideal candidate should be a strong self-starter, a quick learner, and comfortable with a high workload and extra responsibility.

In this role, you will supervise a team of full-time librarians and paraprofessionals, participate in leadership discussions, and help develop library services for youth and families, including

Qualifications

• MLS required from an ALA-accredited school.
• Experience with youth services preferred in a public library.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in supervising Youth Services staff and scheduling.
• Assist with evaluating youth collections, services, programs, and outreach activities to meet community needs.
• Help develop strategies to improve all aspects of youth services.
• Serve as Librarian in Charge when Head of Youth Services is absent.
• Prepare departmental reports and help implement library policies and procedures.
• Participate in professional development and stay current on library trends.
• Develop trainings for Youth Services staff and build community partnerships.

Job description

Franklin Park Public Library District is seeking an energetic, caring and creative individual
to assist our Head of Youth Services in running the Youth Services Department. The ideal candidate should bea strong self-starter, a quick learner, and comfortable with a high workload and extra responsibility.Additional traits include being highly collaborative, flexible, and having a sense of humor. In this role, you are responsible for assisting the Head of Youth Services in supervising a team of full-timelibrarians and paraprofessionals. As an integral part of the Leadership Team, you will also participate in the effort to evaluate and develop library services offered to our youth and family populations, including, but notlimited to collection development, community outreach, programming, reference services, and reader’sadvisory.

Job duties

• Assists in assigning work, training, scheduling, coaching and evaluating Youth Services Department staff
• Assists with analyzing and evaluating youth collections, services, programs, and outreach activities to bestmeet the community’s needs
• Assists with developing strategies to improve all aspects of youth services
• Assumes general responsibility for the department when the Head of Youth Services is not present
• Assists with preparing departmental reports and implementing library policies and procedures
• Participates in professional development including meetings, webinars, and continuing education and keeps current on library trends
• Develops competencies and offers training for Youth Services staff
• Assists with building community partnerships, outreach and grant writing
• Acts as Librarian in Charge and assumes general responsibility as part of the Leadership Team
• Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

37.5 hours per week, weekdays and weekends.

$55,000 – $75,000 annually, DOQ and internal equity
