Job summary

Steve Madden in New York City is seeking an Assistant Handbag Designer to support the Design Director and senior designers from concept to production. This on-site role focuses on developing seasonal handbag collections for wholesale and off-price, including CAD drawings, specifications, and color control.

You will work four days on-site and one day from home, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure design intent and accuracy through development and production stages.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design or related field is required.
• 1–3 years of handbag or accessories design experience.
• Proficiency in Illustrator and Photoshop required.
• Strong illustration and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Support Design Director and Senior Designers in seasonal handbag development.
• Create CAD drawings, technical sketches, and renderings for client presentations.
• Prepare specification sheets with accurate construction details and materials.
• Maintain color standards and lab dips; update seasonal color charts.
• Organize material, color, trim, and hardware libraries for quick access.
• Prepare boards, sample reviews, and materials for markets and reviews.
• Track sample development and liaise with overseas factories to meet milestones.
• Collaborate with Production, Technical Design, Merchandising, and Sales teams.
