Job summary

van Hoekelen Greenhouses is seeking a dependable Assistant Grower to support the Head Grower in managing greenhouse crops, including variety selection, planting, yield, and production planning. The role covers plant health, environment control, and record-keeping in a modern facility.

Applicants with a pesticide license or commercial growing experience are a plus. The position is based in McAdoo, PA, with a focus on safety and reliable, hands-on work in a growing operation.

• Assists in application of fertilizers, plant growth regulators, and pesticides as directed
• Maintains records of growing and production techniques for future review.
• Learns and maintains a current knowledge of growing techniques and technologies
• Assists the Grower and performs other duties as assigned

van Hoekelen Greenhouses is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Assistant Grower to join our team. This position assists the Head Grower to manage all horticulture functions involving variety selection, planting, yield and production management of the greenhouse crops.

Responsibilities include all aspects of plant growth, health, and environmental control. Pesticide license and commercial growing experience are a plus.

Our state-of-the‑art facility contains glass roofing, rolling tables, overhead irrigation, and computerized environmental control. We are located in McAdoo, PA and specialize in production of various bulb crops, Mums, Cactus, Hanging Baskets, etc.

Key Responsibilities

• Discusses plant growing activities with Head Grower that are consistent with planned production schedules
• Helps to monitor growing conditions.
• Helps to inspect crop development and monitors pests and/or disease to maintain the company’s quality standards
• Assists in application of fertilizers, plant growth regulators, and pesticides as directed
• Maintains records of growing and production techniques for future review.
• Learns and maintains a current knowledge of growing techniques and technologies
• Assists the Grower and performs other duties as assigned

Schedule & Physical Requirements

• Must be available to work a flexible schedule
• Ability to frequently lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to stand, walk, bend, twist, squat, kneel, push, pull, reach overhead, and climb as required.
• Must be able to work safely on uneven or slippery surfaces and in various weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Pesticide license and commercial growing experience are a plus.
