Job summary

Berwick Area YMCA seeks a dedicated youth program staff member to provide nurturing support and guidance to children in before and after school programming. You will plan and implement curriculum aligned with YMCA goals, supervise activities, and foster a sense of achievement and belonging among youth and families.

You will build relationships with parents, coordinate aides, maintain records, and participate in staff training and family events.

Qualifications

  • Meets or exceeds educational and experience qualifications established by state law.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with youth enrolled and all program stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements curriculum within the established guidelines.
  • Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
  • Supervises the children, and all activities. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies. Adheres to all YMCA standards for safety and cleanliness.
  • Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  • Cultivates positive relationships, and maintains effective communication with parents. Engages parents as volunteers and connects them to the YMCA. Models relationship building skills in all interactions.
  • Maintains program site and equipment.
  • Maintains required program records.
  • Attends and participates in family activities, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
  • Coordinates the activities of Aides. Acts as a resource and provides support to Aides working in the program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

POSITION SUMMARY

Provide nurturing support and guidance to youth enrolled in before and after school programming at the Berwick Area YMCA. This position supports the work of the YMCA as it relates to Youth Development, one of the three primary areas of focus for the YMCA. Provides direction for the children in the program and plans and implements program curriculum that achieves YMCA goals and program objectives. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

QUALIFICATIONS
