Meyer's Pet Care is seeking an Assistant Groomer to help with pet styling and grooming duties. You will be trained in-house and work as part of a supportive team to ensure clean, well-groomed pets.

Must be passionate about animals, willing to learn, and able to handle dogs of various sizes. Opportunities for advancement exist within Meyer's apprenticeship program.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in a pet salon, veterinary setting or pet care environment a plus
• Excellent work history and references

Responsibilities

• Bathing, drying, brushing and learning all coat types.
• Perform specialized spa treatment.
• Ear cleaning.
• Nail trimming/filing.
• Some final grooming elements of the pets.
• Trimming feet, pads and minor shaping on some breeds.

ASSISTANT GROOMER | JOB DESCRIPTION

Pet Styling is one of the core of our services and this position requires caring for all aspects of a pet's styling experience during its appointment. Strong attention to detail and a team player attitude are required, as is your love for pets! We work together as a team...to have happy, beautifully styled pets! Applicants must be responsible, punctual and dependable. No prior grooming experience needed. We will train you for this position but understanding of animal behavior and a genuine love for animals is a must. You must be able to handle dogs of all sizes without being afraid of them and without allowing them to control you. Must be willing to maintain the highest standards in cleanliness and equipment maintenance. And by the way, if you have interest in becoming a professional pet stylist we have our own internal apprenticeship program available here at Meyer's. We want to help you grow. There will be opportunities for advancement, if you excel.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

This position reports to the Office Leader and Grooming Leader.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

REQUIREMENTS

• Detail oriented
• Note and notify staff of any abnormal signs or behaviors animals may display, (know signs of distress and common diseases) ask questions there are never too many questions when animals well-beings are at state.
• Demonstrate positive attitude towards pets, co-workers, and customers. Passion for animals. Humanely and gently handle animals at all times.
• Having the ability to read an animal and its behavior, know when animal is stressed, agitated, aggressive, friendly, submissive etc. Never put oneself or others at risk.
• Computer literate with ability to use in-house software
• Genuine liking for people with a desire to make the customer experience and the employee work experience pleasant, welcoming, and memorable.
• Communicating and connecting company mission and values to daily operations

OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES

Handle dogs of all sizes without being afraid of them and without allowing them to control you

• Be able to lift 50 lbs.
• Be in good physical condition, able to squat, stoop, bend, and lift
• Must be willing to maintain the highest standards in cleanliness

PAY SCALE & BENEFITS

• $15-$20/hour, depending on experience. Performance based bonus upon approval.
