Job summary

Elanco in Indianapolis, IN is seeking an experienced corporate counsel to lead the US Farm Animal commercial strategy and sustainability portfolio. You will advise on contracts, data privacy, ESG regulations, and product launches while driving efficiency through AI-enabled processes.

The role requires a JD, active bar admission, and 5+ years in corporate law supporting commercial functions; relocation and hybrid work options are offered.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school and active bar admission in at least one state (Indiana eligibility).

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary legal lead for US Farm Animal commercial strategy and negotiations.
• Counsel on sustainability initiatives, data privacy, digital contracting, and ESG topics.
• Deliver cost-avoidance by insourcing high-value commercial legal work.
• Guide environmental claims, carbon-neutral initiatives, and ESG regulatory evolution.
• Pioneer AI and legal tech to automate workflows and create playbooks.

Job description

Your Responsibilities:

• Act as the primary legal architect for the US Farm Animal commercial strategy, providing proactive business-oriented counseling and managing complex commercial transactions, contract drafting and negotiation, antitrust risk assessments, and product launch strategies.
• Drive the legal strategy for the US Farm Animal sustainability portfolio and Elanco Knowledge Solutions (EKS), navigating data privacy, digital contracting, and new value-added service models.
• Deliver measurable cost-avoidance by insourcing high-value legal work focused on commercial contracts and portfolio positioning.
• Lead the legal evolution of the sustainability portfolio, including guidance on environmental claims, carbon-neutral initiatives, and evolving ESG regulations.
• Pioneer the use of AI and legal technology to automate routine workflows and develop playbooks that empower the commercial team.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Legal and Compliance subject matter experts to simplify engagement with the business.

What You Need to Succeed (minimum qualifications):

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; active admission to at least one U.S. state bar (ability to become licensed in Indiana).
• 5–8+ years of experience in corporate law or a major law firm supporting Commercial or Business Development functions.
• Deep understanding of contract law and regulatory frameworks relevant to global life sciences or agricultural business.
