The City of Deerfield Beach seeks an executive Fire Rescue leader to oversee emergency service delivery, EMS, training, logistics, and special operations. You will guide planning, staffing, and performance evaluation to ensure safe, effective service delivery.
You will supervise personnel, coordinate with unions and city officials, and assume command during major incidents when required. A Bachelor’s degree and Florida certifications are required.
The salary range listed for this position reflects the full range of the applicable salary schedule.
The starting salary for the selected candidate will be determined based on verification of the candidate’s relevant experience, education, certifications, qualifications, and other applicable factors.
The purpose of this position is to provide executive-level leadership and oversight of assigned Fire Rescue operations and programs, including emergency service delivery, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), training, logistics, communications, special operations, and other departmental initiatives as assigned.
The position evaluates department operations and recommends improvements to support safe, effective, and efficient service delivery.
This class works under the general direction of the Fire Chief or designee, exercising considerable independent judgment in planning, directing, evaluating, and improving assigned departmental operations, programs, and personnel.
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs work involving light physical demands, including exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. The position may also require walking, standing, sitting, operating a computer, responding to emergency scenes, and performing command or supervisory functions in field environments.
Work is performed in office, fire station, vehicle, and emergency-scene environments. The employee may be exposed to weather, smoke, heat, noise, traffic, hazardous materials, infectious disease, and other conditions associated with emergency response. Appropriate safety practices and personal protective equipment shall be used as required.
Typical Hours Monday-Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm
This is an executive Fire Rescue position that may require work beyond normal business hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. The employee is an essential emergency service worker and may be required to report to work or remain on duty during declared emergencies, disasters, hurricanes, major incidents, or other operational needs of the City.
