Job summary

H2O America in Cromwell, CT is seeking an Assistant Engineer to join our Engineering team. You’ll gain hands-on experience supporting design and delivery of water infrastructure and capital projects, including treatment facilities, pumping stations, and storage tanks.

This entry-level role blends office engineering with field work and provides exposure to permitting, construction support, and project coordination under seasoned engineers.

Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering required.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
• Hydraulic and engineering design skills preferred.
• GIS experience preferred.
• Experience with AutoCAD or similar CAD software preferred.
• General office software skills.
• Interest in working in a blend of indoor and outdoor environments.

Responsibilities

• Perform field investigations and design work for assigned infrastructure and capital projects.
• Develop plans, specifications, and cost estimates for bidding on facility projects, independently or as part of a project team.
• Support the design and delivery of upgrades and improvements to water treatment facilities, pumping stations, and water storage tanks.
• Help prepare applications for required federal, state, and local permits and approvals.
• Coordinate design schedules and activities under the supervision of other team members to help keep projects moving forward.
• Support Facilities Project Coordinators during the construction of new facilities.
• Coordinate as‑built drawings and compile Operations & Maintenance information.
• Work closely with local teams to ensure effective communication and successful project delivery.
• Ensure Company standards and specifications are incorporated into facility designs.
• Follow Company safety requirements, including applicable OSHA and other state and federal regulations.
• Take on additional assignments and special projects as needed.
