Job summary

NBCUniversal in California is seeking an Assistant Director to lead the attraction technical/project management team, overseeing feasibility studies, scope development, vendor selection, and field oversight from installation to SAT. You will manage risks, budgets, and schedules while aligning with safety and accessibility goals.

The role requires direct reports up to Technical Program Manager, with strong vendor management and engineering experience to deliver on creative and business objectives

Qualifications

  • 15 years vendor management experience with significant in-field installation related work.
  • 5 years related experience; theme park experience preferred or equivalent mix of education and experience.
  • Proven track record leading teams and mentoring staff.

Responsibilities

  • Makes direct engineering contributions to projects for code/standards and Universal specifications.
  • Review/approve ride/show scope of work and RFPs; ensure technical plans meet standards.
  • Lead the project technical team in risk assessment and schedule mitigation.
  • Drive California DOSH sign-off for new attractions and ADA compliance.
  • Oversee safety improvements, regulatory compliance, and development of new safety tech.

Job Description

The Assistant Director will be responsible for leading the attraction technical/project management team in developing the technical approach for all major elements and providing oversight during execution with the vendor. Primary tasks include concept feasibility, scope of work development and review, vendor assessment and selection, vendor oversight, risk identification and mitigation, field installation strategy, oversight of field test and adjust and SAT. In addition to the safety and technical aspects of the job, budget, schedule and creative constraints will be incorporated into all decisions. This role will have multiple direct reports ranging from manager up to Technical Program Manager (TPM).

  • Makes direct engineering contributions to projects as required relative to engineering, code and standards compliance, Universal Specification compliance, and technical systems achievement of creative and business goals.
  • Review/approve all Ride/Show scope of work and RFPs.
  • Reviews/develops the technical plans and progress for UC projects as assigned. Enforces Universal's specifications, standards, and technical contracting methods.
  • Leads the project technical team in assessing and mitigating technical and schedule risk.
  • Leads the project team to achieve California DOSH sign off of new attractions.
  • Assists with Universal Patent pursuit and defense.
  • Oversee ADA compliance for Shows and Rides. Develop and execute innovations/inventions that provide increased accessibility.
  • Drive safety improvements across project. Monitor compliance with regulations and internal standards; develop new safety technologies; and ensure that safety protocols reflect theme park best practices and cutting-edge ideas.
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications/Requirements
  • 15 Years: Required Vendor Management experience with significant in-field installation related experience. 5 Years: Required related experience. Theme Park specific experience, in such areas as Show Action Equipment (SAE) and/or ride systems, is highly preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • Proven track record of managing teams, including direct reports, & acting as in-house mentor.
  • Experience with compliance activities including for guest facing interactions.
