Job summary

BNSF Railway seeks a Special Agent (Police) in Bakersfield, CA to join the Resource Protection team protecting assets and conducting investigations across the rail network.

Travel is required. Training occurs at Fort Worth, TX and on-site with an internal trainer. Basic qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, state peace officer certification, valid driver’s license, and willingness to relocate within 50 miles of Bakersfield.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Must have completed basic police training at a state certified academy.
  • Must meet peace officer commissioning standards and be commissioned as such with a valid State Peace Officer License.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel.
  • Must be physically and psychologically fit and pass required background checks.

Responsibilities

  • Protects and safeguards company assets and resources including personnel, property and customers’ property entrusted to the company.
  • Conduct proficient, sensitive corporate and criminal investigations, provide accurate reports and testify in court when required.
  • Identify and properly handle trespassers on Company property and make arrests as appropriate.
  • Counsels and advises company officials to reduce crime and coordinate response to railroad emergencies; supervises guards and trains staff.
  • Perform aggressive crime prevention patrols of facilities, railroad property and trains, with emphasis on TOFC/COFC and high-value shipments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary Range:$102,000 - $112,750

Bonus: $5,000 payable 30 days after hire; additional $5,000 payable 1 year after hire

TheResource Protection departmentis dedicated to ensuring the security and safety of the company's vast network of rail operations. This department employs comprehensive strategies and state-of-the-art technology to safeguard the transportation of goods, prevent theft, and mitigate risks associated with railway operations. By collaborating closely with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, the Resource Protection team plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity and reliability of BNSF Railway's services.

Travelis required.

Trainingfor this position is at both corporate headquarters in Fort Worth, TX and on-site at location with an internal trainer.

Key responsibilities may include:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Must have satisfactorily completed basic police training at a recognized state certified academy
  • Must meet peace officer commissioning standards in state in which this job is posted and be commissioned as such and maintain a valid State Peace Office License in that state.
  • Must meet BNSF Resource Protection Solutions Team standards as a Special Agent
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be willing and able to travel as required
  • Must be able and willing to use the company’s computer system for creating reports and databases
  • Must be physically and psychologically fit, able to successfully pass any required company evaluations and pass an extensive background investigation
  • Must successfully complete any required company training for this position
  • Must have broad knowledge of railroad industry and operations; particularly as it relates to handling emergency situations such as derailments, load securement, and like events
  • Must have a broad knowledge of criminal law and procedures
  • Must be able to successfully lead people, often in a stressful critical-event environment
  • Must be able to meet any government or Company training and retention standards
  • Mustlive or be willingto relocate within 50 miles of the assigned work location
  • Eighteen months of successful experience as a full time peace officer with a city, county, state federal or railroad law enforcement agency required

  • Bachelor's Degree
