Job summary

The City of Dallas is seeking an Assistant Director of Sanitation (Operations) to lead and coordinate municipal solid waste and recycling collections for about 250,000 customers.

The role supports executive management, oversees fleet, enforcement, cart services, and contractor work, and partners with the Director to ensure cohesive, safe, and cost-effective service delivery across five districts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, public or business administration, or a related field.
• Equivalency Master’s degree or higher plus five years of experience meets education/experience requirements.
• A High school diploma or GED plus fourteen years of experience meets the education/experience requirements.

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct, and provide executive management services for the Sanitation department.
• Lead weekly waste and recycle collection planning and execution, plus support functions.
• Develop and analyze management reports for accuracy and continuity.
• Manage department budget and capital needs, including fleet purchases.
• Coordinate with Director and other divisions to ensure cohesive operations.
