Job summary

Center for Transforming Lives is seeking an Assistant Director to assist the Center Director in running a safe, educational child development program and to supervise staff and daily operations of the Child Development Center.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Child Development or related field, plus experience in early childhood settings and knowledge of licensing and Head Start standards. Strong organizational and collaboration skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Child Care Licensing Minimum Standards and Head Start Performance Standards.
• Maintains awareness of trends in early childhood education and family services.
• Proficient with Windows OS and Office suite; able to learn new software.

Responsibilities

• Support the Center Director in ensuring a compliant, high-quality program.
• Supervise staff and day-to-day operations in the Center in the Director's absence.
• Assist with enrollment goals and community resource referrals.
• Contribute to curriculum development and child assessment processes.
• Ensure safety and security of children, staff, and property.

Summary

The Assistant Director is responsible for assisting the Center Director in ensuring an educational, caring, and safe child development program to meet the developmental needs of children served by the Center for Transforming Lives. The Assistant Director is responsible for managing and supervising the staff, program, and day‑to‑day operations of the Child Development Center in the absence of the Center Director.

Responsibilities

• Contributes to providing quality service in whatever capacity is required in accordance with skills and training.
• Assists the Center Director in ensuring that the Child Development Center is operating in compliance with agency policies and procedures, state licensing standards, and other regulatory entities.
• Supports the process of apportioning the work among the employees and directing work of center staff.
• Helps to ensure the safety and security of the children, employees, and the property.
• Assists the Center Director in ensuring enrollment goals are met.
• Ensures families and children are referred and/or connected to community resources as appropriate.
• Supports implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum.
• Supports child screening and child assessment process. Ensures children are referred to community resources as necessary.
• Ensures staffing patterns throughout the center meet Child Care Licensing Minimum Standards for classroom ratios.
• Is available and accessible to parents/guardians daily and responds professionally to parent/guardian concerns.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education or related field required.
• Minimum of three years of classroom or management experience in an early childhood setting.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

• Knowledge of Child Care Licensing Minimum Standards and Head Start Performance Standards.
• Maintains awareness of trends and best practices and is proactive in continually acquiring knowledge in fields related to children and families, poverty and homelessness, and early childhood development and education.
• Knowledge of Windows operating system and Office products, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, or ability to learn them independently and to use them.
• Ability to learn and use any other software programs needed in the operations of Center for Transforming Lives programs, including, but not limited to, any center management data collection and reporting system (Pro Care and Child Plus).
