Job summary

The City of Wood Dale seeks an Assistant Director of Public Works – Public Services to support the Public Works Director in leading Public Services operations including streets, water, facilities, and fleet maintenance. You will supervise staff, help implement policies, participate in budgeting, and coordinate projects to improve efficiency and service delivery.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 3–5 years of supervisory experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in Engineering, Construction, Public Administration, Management, or related field.
• Three to five years of supervisory experience with increasing duties and responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Public Works Director with the daily operations and supervision of Public Services activities.
• Assist with oversight of street, water, facilities, and fleet maintenance operations.
• Provide leadership, direction, and support to departmental staff.
• Assist with development and implementation of departmental rules, policies, procedures, goals, and operational standards.
• Participate in strategic planning, budgeting, and departmental planning activities.
• Maintain and oversee departmental records and documentation.
• Assist with accreditation activities and departmental standards.
• Evaluate operational needs and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, service delivery, and processes.
• Assist with coordinating projects and departmental initiatives.
• Serve as interim Public Works Director in the Director’s absence.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
