Job summary

Georgia Southern University is seeking an Assistant Director for Southern Adventures to lead and oversee its outdoor recreation programs and adventure center across multiple campuses. You'll supervise 20–30 student staff, manage budgets, and ensure safety and quality of programs.

The role involves strategic planning, risk management, and collaboration with campus partners to grow offerings and student learning outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in recreation, management, or related field.
• Three or more years of related work experience.
• Wilderness First Responder certification or ability to attain within six months of hire.
• Experience leading adventure trips (land and/or water).

Responsibilities

• Oversee recruitment, training, and supervision of 20–30 student staff across multiple roles.
• Manage and develop outdoor adventure programs across three university campuses.
• Administer and monitor the annual operational budget for Southern Adventure.
• Oversee facilities including outdoor rental center, climbing wall, and related amenities.
• Foster leadership development and implement risk management standards.
• Develop strategic plans to drive growth, safety, and participant satisfaction.
• Coordinate facility/equipment audits and maintenance schedules.
• Conduct program reviews related to learning outcomes and satisfaction.
• Implement marketing strategies for outdoor programs and services.
• Manage procurement, maintenance, and inventory of equipment.
• Cultivate campus partnerships in support of Southern Adventures.
• Stay informed about industry trends and adapt programs accordingly.
