Job description

The Assistant Director, Operations is responsible for supporting the day-to-day management and strategic oversight of transportation operations across multiple field office locations. This individual assists in directing and coordinating operational activities, ensuring adherence to safety standards, contractual obligations, and regulatory compliance. Implements the continuous development and delivery of training to ensure all staff are well-prepared, compliant, and aligned with operational excellence.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The incumbent should be able to perform all the following functions at a pace and level of performance consistent with the job performance requirements.

  • Support the overall management of transportation operations and ensure compliance with policies, regulations, and performance standards related to safety, efficiency, risk management, customer service, and asset utilization.
  • Provide operational oversight and guidance to ensure the safe, secure, and humane transport of inmates and detainees, promoting public and staff safety at all times.
  • Conduct field visits, inspections, audits, and participate in incident management to identify deficiencies, monitor performance, and implement corrective actions that support continuous improvement.
  • Review and support the implementation of policies, procedures, emergency plans, and training programs to ensure compliance with federal/state laws, contractual obligations, and company standards.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop staff through effective communication, performance feedback, and engagement initiatives to ensure consistency across all levels of the organization and with external partners.
  • Assist in investigations related to safety, security, or operational incidents, and support the protection of company assets, employees, and stakeholders.
  • Lead or support onboarding, activation, and ongoing training of transportation team members, including participation in the Field Training Officer (FTO) Program.
  • Analyze operational data and performance metrics to identify trends, recommend improvements, and share best practices across locations and departments.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders and facility leadership to drive continuous improvement initiatives, including leading layered process audits and reporting outcomes to ensure operational excellence.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned and maintain flexibility to travel extensively across the U.S. to support field operations.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduate from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree is required. Relevant, full-time leadership experience in operations, transportation logistics, or corrections may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis. Minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience in operations, transportation logistics, or corrections required. Prior experience in a correctional, law enforcement, or military environment is preferred. Must demonstrate strong problem-solving, decision-making, and crisis management skills with knowledge of applicable transportation regulations, and experience managing multi-site operations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with operational management software (e.g., GPS fleet tracking, scheduling tools) is required. A valid driver’s license is required.
