Job summary

Canyon View Care Center is seeking an Assistant Director of Nursing to oversee the Nursing Service Department, ensuring high-quality care and regulatory compliance. The role focuses on planning, organizing, and directing operations while guiding staff and residents with compassion.

  • Develop, maintain, and periodically update written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing service department.
  • Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary.
  • Determine the staffing needs and recommend the number and level of nursing personnel to be employed.
  • Assist in calculating the number of direct nursing personnel on duty each shift.
  • Ensure that all nursing assistants are enrolled in or have graduated from an approved training program.
  • Develop work assignments and schedule duty hours.
  • Make daily rounds of the nursing service department to ensure that all nursing personnel are performing their work assignments.
  • Review complaints and grievances made or filed by department personnel.
  • Ensure that disciplinary action is administered fairly.
  • Participate in the interviewing and selection of residents for admission.
  • Develop a written plan of care for each resident that identifies problems/needs, the care to be given, goals to be accomplished, and which professional service is responsible for each element of care.
  • Prepare and plan the nursing service department's budget and submit to the Administrator.
  • Schedule, attend, and participate in nursing service meetings.
  • Demonstrate a passion for caring as evidenced by interaction with co-workers, residents, families, and visitors.
  • Perform all other duties, as assigned.

POSITION SUMMARY

The primary responsibility of your job position is to assist with planning, organizing, developing, and directing overall operation of our Nursing Service Department following the current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern long term care and assisted living facilities. You are entrusted to ensure that the highest degree of quality care can be provided to our residents at all times.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

EDUCATION:
  • Must be a graduate of an approved RN program. Must maintain a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a RN preferably in the state of CO
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred
EXPERIENCE:
  • Must have, as a minimum, one (1) year of experience as a supervisor in a hospital, nursing care facility, or other related health care facility
  • Prefer a minimum (6) months experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Moves intermittently during working hours.
  • Is subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
  • Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, etc.
  • Works beyond normal duty hours, on weekends, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
  • Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.).
  • Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants.
  • Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
  • May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility
  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a mental and physical examination
  • Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and /or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet
  • May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations
