ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING - HOTEL

SkyBridge Luxury is recruiting an Assistant Director of Engineering for a historic full-service hotel undergoing a major property transformation on Manhattan's Upper West Side.

This is an excellent advancement opportunity for an accomplished Hotel Chief Engineer, Engineering Manager, or Assistant Director of Engineering who wants meaningful exposure to renovation projects, infrastructure improvements, team leadership, and the long-term stewardship of a historic New York City building.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Engineering and help lead a union team of 12 Engineers and 3 Painters. The position offers the opportunity to take on increasing departmental responsibility and demonstrate the readiness to advance into a future Director of Engineering role.

The Opportunity

• Help lead daily engineering operations for an active full-service hotel.
• Support a significant renovation and multiple building-improvement projects.
• Develop action plans, establish priorities, and drive projects through completion.
• Strengthen preventive maintenance programs across guestrooms, public areas, equipment, and major building systems.
• Coordinate contractors, vendors, schedules, inspections, and project documentation.
• Support the operation and maintenance of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, elevators, fire and life safety, and building automation systems.
• Assign work, coordinate coverage, and reinforce accountability across a 15-person union team.
• Balance planned projects, preventive maintenance, guestroom work orders, and urgent operating needs.
• Help protect the safety, reliability, appearance, and long-term condition of the physical asset.

Ideal Background

• Current or recent experience as a Hotel Chief Engineer, Engineering Manager, Assistant Chief Engineer, or Assistant Director of Engineering.
• Progressive engineering or facilities maintenance experience within a full-service hotel.
• Experience supervising engineering, maintenance, or skilled-trades employees.
• Strong understanding of preventive maintenance programs and work-order management.
• Experience supporting renovations, capital projects, or major building improvements.
• Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and life-safety systems.
• Highly organized and able to manage several projects and operating priorities simultaneously.
• Experience with historic buildings, older infrastructure, union teams, CMMS platforms, or building automation systems is highly valued.
• English/Spanish bilingual capability is an additional advantage.

Certifications

Candidates should identify any relevant EPA, FDNY, OSHA, refrigeration, fire and life safety, or NYC building-operating credentials they currently possess.

EPA Section 608 Universal and applicable FDNY Certificates of Fitness are preferred - not universally required for consideration. The relevance of individual credentials will depend on the responsibilities assigned and the property's operating requirements.
