Job summary

One River School of Art + Design in New Jersey is seeking an Art Education Assistant Director to teach, mentor and collaborate within a busy studio environment.

The role requires leading art and digital design classes, coordinating with families, and upholding the One River Method. You will manage studio operations, maintain inventories, and help plan student exhibitions and community events.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in Visual Art, Art Education or Design (Master’s a plus) or equivalent professional experience.
• 3+ years of experience teaching visual arts for K–12 and/or adults.
• Digital lab maintenance experience.
• Track record of high-quality instruction, classroom management, and student progress.
• Inventory management experience.
• Clear communicator, organized, and energized by a busy studio environment.
• Passion for art history, contemporary art and a “students-first” mindset.

Responsibilities

• Teach art and/or digital design classes weekly for various ages.
• Observe, document and communicate student progress to families and teachers.
• Provide hospitality and communications with parents, schedule makeup classes and upsell courses.
• Implement One River Method with lesson plans and resources for teachers.
• Run a well-organized studio: manage supplies, spaces, and digital lab upkeep.
• Plan and install student exhibitions; coordinate openings and events.

Art Education Assistant Director - Full Time

One River School of Art + Design invites motivated educators to teach, mentor, and collaborate with practicing artists in a creative community.

What you’ll do:

• Teach art and / or digital design classes: teach weekly art and / or digital art classes and summer camps for a variety of ages and media.
• Ensure student success: actively engage with students and teachers to observe, document, and communicate progress and growth opportunities.
• Provide hospitality service & communication: conduct proactive check‑ins with parents, students, and families, support makeup scheduling, discuss progress and upsell additional classes / camps.
• Implement One River methodology curriculum: provide teachers with lesson plans and resources on time, implement the One River Method in each class, and contribute to lesson plan development.
• Run a best‑in‑class studio: order and re‑stock art supplies, clean and organize studio spaces and student artwork, and oversee digital lab maintenance.
• Student exhibitions: collect, curate and install school & community exhibitions; plan and prompt opening receptions for student shows and support parties and special events.

Schedule & Compensation

This is a full‑time position: 40 hours a week, including two evenings a week and either Saturday or Sunday. Salary: $53,000–$60,000 base + quarterly bonus eligibility.
