Qualifications

• Master’s degree in higher education/student personnel administration or equivalent.
• Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years of related work experience and increasing responsibility.
• Demonstrated collaboration, communication, and leadership capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Advance the vision for student engagement and leadership by enhancing programs and community belonging.
• Collaborate across departments and with partners to plan, implement, and evaluate MSOE traditions.
• Oversee development and sustainability of student organizations with risk and fiscal oversight.
• Advise fraternities/sororities and governing councils to strengthen chapter infrastructure.
• Design and implement leadership development programs for student leaders.
• Develop community partnerships connecting students with local organizations for service.
• Partner with the Raider Center for Academic Success on student transition and engagement.
• Develop assessment of campus programming to inform improvements and satisfaction.
• Provide leadership development for faculty/staff advisors of student organizations.
• Recruit, hire, train, and supervise Campus Life Ambassadors.

Summary

MSOE invites applications for a full-time Assistant Director of Campus Life to join our Campus Life team. The Assistant Director of Campus Life plays a vital role in enhancing student engagement, leadership development, and community connection for all MSOE students. The Assistant Director is dedicated to employing student-centered theories that focus on identity and persistence to cultivate a holistic approach to co-curricular and community engagement. Reporting directly to the Director of Campus Life, this position collaborates with the Assistant Director of First-Year Programming to implement programming, traditions, student organization support, and service opportunities that contribute to the satisfaction, retention, persistence, and graduation of all students.

Essential Job Functions

• Collaborate with the Director of Campus Life to advance the vision for student engagement and leadership by identifying opportunities to enhance existing programs and implement initiatives that strengthen community and belonging.
• Collaborate across departments and with community partners to plan, implement, and evaluate programming and MSOE traditions, including Welcome Week, Involvement Fairs, Homecoming, St. Patrick’s Celebration, Student Awards Celebration, Senior Celebration, and ROAR.
• Oversee the development, support, and sustainability of student organizations while ensuring compliance with university policies, procedures, and requirements, including risk management, fiscal responsibility, and university operations.
• Advise fraternities, sororities, and their governing council in developing campus- and community-wide programs and strengthening chapter infrastructure to advance their respective missions.
• Design and implement a comprehensive leadership development program for student organization leaders grounded in student development and leadership theory, fostering career-ready competencies, ethical decision-making, and organizational or community impact.
• Develop and oversee community partnerships that connect students and student organizations with local organizations through service opportunities and educational programming
• Partner with the Raider Center for Academic Success to design and implement programming aligned with the Student Success and Engagement Plan that supports the transition, engagement, and success of first- and second-year students.
• In collaboration with the Director of Campus Life and Assistant Director of First-Year Programs, develop and maintain ongoing assessment of campus programming efforts, including attendance, participation, peer institution benchmarking, and satisfaction, to inform decisions that enhance student satisfaction and the overall student experience.
• Provides leadership and education for faculty and staff advisors of student organizations
• Recruit, hire, train, and supervise Campus Life Ambassadors to provide a high-level of student engagement and programming for all students.
• Support student leaders in navigating complex situations by providing guidance, problem-solving strategies, and referrals to campus resources.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• Coordinate logistical planning for programs and events, including facility scheduling, audiovisual needs, and other resources necessary for successful program execution.
• Serve as a liaison between student organizations, departments, and community partners
• Support marketing initiatives through social media content, promotional materials, and other communications that increase student engagement and participation
• Assist with administrative duties, including ensuring fiscal responsibility; effective planning and communication; compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and university policies
• Participate in campus events, new student visit days, and new student orientation

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in higher education/student personnel administration or related field or a Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of increasing responsibility in comparable work experience
• Proven ability to be a team player, communicate effectively, solve problems, and build rapport
• Ability to set goals, critically assess outcomes, and adjust goals based on those assessments

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job the employee is largely sedentary, the ability to move, lift small packages, and move carts/objects is required. The employee is occasionally required to traverse within their work area as well as other areas on campus.

• This job operates in a professional office environment and uses standard office equipment, including but not limited to computers, phones, and printers.
• The office is in a high-traffic, highly visible area of campus with limited privacy.
• The noise level in the work environment is often loud due to foot traffic and activity.
• This position shares office space with another staff member.
