Job summary

Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center in New York City, part of NYC Health + Hospitals, seeks a senior nursing administrator to oversee nursing services and education programs. Under general supervision, you will plan, organize and evaluate nursing activities across a major unit, ensuring patient-centered care and staff development.

The role requires a Master’s in Nursing Administration or related field, a NYS RN license, and substantial supervisory experience.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing Administration, Education, Clinical Specialty or equivalent field with five years of nursing experience, including supervisory or teaching roles.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing with six years of nursing experience, four of which are supervisory or teaching roles.
  • Licensed and registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and evaluating nursing services and education programs.
  • Develop policies, objectives and standards for nursing service and education.
  • Prepare personnel, supply and equipment budgets and assist in administrative procedures.
  • Plan, direct and evaluate nursing service in a major division or home health setting and supervise staff.

Duties & Responsibilities

Purpose of Position: Under general supervision of the Associate Director of Nursing, assists with the planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and evaluating of nursing service and education programs of the hospital, diagnostic and treatment center, or a major unit within the Department of Nursing. Performs related work.

Examples Of Typical Tasks
  • Assists in developing policies, objectives and standards of nursing service and education.
  • Assists in the preparation of personnel, supply and equipment budgets.
  • Assists in the development of administrative procedures and programs of patient care.
  • May have responsibility for planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and evaluating the nursing service in a major clinical division, or a home health agency in a hospital, participating in selection, placement and follow-up of patients transferred to homes.
  • Assists with the planning, organization and conduct of a nursing education program.
  • May assume responsibility for planning, directing, coordinating and evaluating nursing service on the evening and night tours.
  • Directs activities of Supervisor of Nurses.
  • Prepares and makes periodic and daily reports on administrative matters relating to staff and patient management.
  • Participates in the direction and implementation of a quality assurance program for nursing.
  • Attends and chairs regular staff meetings with nursing personnel.
  • Assesses nursing services by making rounds, conducting chart review and evaluating patient care.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Licensed and currently registered to practice as a professional nurse in New York State, plus (2) or (3), below.
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing Administration, Education, Clinical Specialty or equivalent field and five years of satisfactory nursing experience, of which three years shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity; or a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing and six years of satisfactory nursing experience, four years of which shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity.
  • A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience. However, all candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.
