La Mere Academy is a licensed early childhood education center dedicated to providing exceptional care and educational experiences for children from infancy through Pre-K. We are seeking a highly motivated, organized, and relationship-focused Assistant Director to support the daily operations of our childcare center and help lead our team to excellence.
Position Overview
The Assistant Director serves as a key member of the leadership team and is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of a licensed childcare center. This role assists with staff management, enrollment, family engagement, licensing compliance, curriculum implementation, and overall center operations. The ideal candidate is an experienced childcare professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about providing high-quality early childhood education.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Operations
- Assist in overseeing the daily operations of the childcare center.
- Ensure classrooms operate efficiently while maintaining appropriate teacher-to-child ratios.
- Support the Director in achieving enrollment, retention, and quality improvement goals.
- Serve as acting Director in the Director's absence.
- Assist with opening and closing responsibilities as needed.
- Monitor classroom quality, teacher performance, and overall program effectiveness.
Staff Management & Development
- Support recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and retention of teaching staff.
- Assist with staff scheduling, attendance tracking, and classroom coverage.
- Conduct classroom observations and provide coaching and support to teachers.
- Facilitate staff meetings, professional development, and ongoing training.
- Promote a positive workplace culture focused on teamwork, accountability, and excellence.
Licensing & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all state childcare licensing regulations and center policies.
- Maintain required records, reports, and documentation.
- Conduct regular health and safety inspections throughout the center.
- Prepare for licensing visits, audits, and quality assessments.
- Ensure staff training requirements and certifications remain current.
Family Engagement & Enrollment
- Build strong relationships with current and prospective families.
- Conduct tours for prospective families and assist with enrollment processes.
- Address parent questions, concerns, and feedback professionally and promptly.
- Support family communication initiatives, events, and parent engagement activities.
- Assist with maintaining accurate child and family records.
Curriculum & Program Quality
- Support the implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum across all classrooms.
- Ensure classroom environments meet early childhood best practices.
- Monitor lesson planning and educational programming.
- Promote school readiness, social-emotional development, and positive behavior guidance strategies.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 2 years of leadership experience in a licensed childcare center, preschool, or early childhood education program.
- Experience supervising staff and managing daily childcare operations.
- Strong knowledge of state childcare licensing regulations.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with childcare management software, Microsoft Office, and digital communication tools.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Child Development Associate (CDA), Director Credential, or Administrator Credential.
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Business Administration, or related field.
- CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Texas Child Care Director's License eligibility (if applicable).
- Experience with Texas Rising Star or other quality rating and improvement systems.
