Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Manage employer relationships in Healthcare, Science, and Research sectors to support internships, experiential learning, shadowing, and full-time jobs.

  • Conduct data mining and lead generation for prospective employers regionally and statewide.

The Career Center seeks campus and employer partnerships to connect students with meaningful, real-world experiences, leading to success for both UNC Charlotte alumni and the greater Charlotte community.

Primary Purpose of Position

This position develops intensive, focused, and purposeful employer relationships within the Healthcare, Science, and Research sectors, in support of internships, experiential learning opportunities, shadowing, networking, and full-time jobs for students interested in those industries. The majority of this position’s time is dedicated to building and maintaining employer relationships within these assigned sectors. The Assistant Director also manages a team of students who support the broader Employer Engagement team’s employer sourcing and prospecting efforts, helping identify new contacts, target companies, and alumni connections across all industry focus areas. This position may also serve as instructor of record for up to one academic course per semester, as needed.

Summary of Position Responsibilities
Industry Relationship Development & Management
  • Serves as the primary employer relationship manager for the Healthcare, Science, and Research sectors, developing new relationships with specific outcomes relating to internships, experiential learning opportunities, shadowing, and full-time jobs for students interested in these industries.
  • Builds a strong pipeline of employer opportunities related to health, science, and research academic programs.
  • Conducts data mining and lead generation for prospective employers relevant to the Healthcare, Science, and Research sectors, including contact with off-campus employers regionally and statewide.
  • Works with employers across the Healthcare, Science, and Research sectors, gathering information on employment trends and professional skill needs; shares information with career advising staff and the campus community through trainings, meetings, and marketing.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date employer relationship information in the team’s CRM , consistent with Employer Engagement team standards.
  • Represents the Employer Engagement team at Healthcare, Science, and Research industry events, conferences, and professional associations.
Programming, Networking & Shadowing
  • Develops and implements shadowing and informational-interviewing opportunities connecting students to professionals in Healthcare, Science, and Research fields.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of networking programs with a strong alumni presence, including shadowing/informational interviewing programs and newly created partnerships with key personnel across the University.
  • Spearheads the development of company- and geography-focused learning and networking opportunities within Healthcare, Science, and Research, utilizing partnerships with parents, alumni, and other external partners.
  • Coordinates career programming, panels, and events with the College of Science, College of Health and Human Services, and other relevant academic departments.
  • Assists in the staffing of campus career fairs each year.
Program Management — Employer Sourcing Student Team
  • Recruits, trains, and supervises a team of students whose primary role is to support the Employer Engagement team’s employer sourcing and prospecting efforts across all industry focus areas.
  • Directs the student team’s research to identify who the team should reach out to next, which companies would be good targets for new relationships, and which companies current alumni work at where the University does not yet have an employer relationship.
  • Develops workflows and tools for the student team to track sourcing leads and routes findings to the appropriate Employer Engagement team member by industry focus.
  • Makes the student sourcing team’s research and output available to the full Employer Engagement team, not solely to this position’s own industry portfolio.
Specialized Projects/Other Responsibilities
  • Researches and stays informed on hiring practices, employment trends, and other labor-related issues within Healthcare, Science, and Research; shares lessons learned with the entire Employer Engagement team.
  • Assists as needed in the review and approval of job postings, informational session requests, and on-campus recruitment requests within assigned industry sectors.
  • Assists in the staffing of employer on-campus events such as information sessions, networking events, and other employer/student connecting programs.
  • Assists in the collection of relevant data to support office trending analysis, reports, and student learning.
  • Participates in University events, including orientations, open houses, and other functions, to promote and represent the University Career Center.
  • Assists the Employer Engagement team with other projects as assigned.
  • Bachelor’sin human resources, business development, marketing, or other relevant degree required and 3 years of direct experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Ability to work with individuals and groups and prepare and deliver high-quality, effective presentations.
  • Must be proficient with technology such as CRM management, social media, or other recruitment-related software and interested in identifying and adopting technological advances in the field.
  • Familiarity with, or strong interest in developing familiarity with, the Healthcare, Science, and Research employment landscape, including relevant employers, credentialing pathways, and industry trends.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, marketing, and communication skills.
  • Must be able to make decisions and work independently, as well as in team situations, including the supervision of student staff.
