Job summary

Baylor University is seeking an Assistant Director for Resident Learning (ADRL) in Campus Living & Learning to lead learning outcomes in on-campus housing. You will supervise professional staff, train teams, and work closely with Spiritual Life to recruit chaplains.

A Master’s degree and 5+ years of experience are required, with PhD plus 7 years preferred. All applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree required; five years of relevant professional work experience is required.
  • PhD and seven years of relevant experience preferred.
  • A combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of one another.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, train, and supervise an area team of 4–6 staff and ensure effective oversight.
  • Facilitate staff trainings and collaborate with Spiritual Life for chaplain recruitment.
  • Support living-learning communities and faculty involvement initiatives.
  • Develop relationships with student staff and address behavioral concerns.
  • Oversee crisis-response protocols and incident follow-up.
  • Advise committees on staff development, recruitment, and recognition.
  • Participate in admissions, orientation, and campus events; manage technology tools.

What We Are Looking For

Baylor University is seeking an Assistant Director for Resident Learning (ADRL) in the office of Campus Living & Learning is one of three midlevel professional staff members responsible for ensuring student learning, faith development, cultural humility, and self-advocacy are outcomes of the on-campus residential experience in their respective area team. The ADRL must show a commitment to collaboration with faculty, an appreciation of human diversity, and an enthusiasm for investing in the development of new professional staff members. The ADRL reports to the Senior Associate Director for Resident Learning.

A Master’s degree and five years of relevant work experience are required. A PhD and seven years of relevant experience are preferred.

What You Will Do
Professional Staff Supervision
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate an area team of 4-6 master’s level Area Coordinators (AC) and Residence Hall Directors (RHD), with possible indirect supervision of an Assistant Residence Hall Director (ARHD) and Graduate Apprentice Residence Hall Directors (GARHD)
  • Facilitate annual trainings of professional staff members
  • In partnership with the office of Spiritual Life, assist in recruitment and hiring of Truett Seminary student Resident Chaplains
Community Development
  • Oversee authentic Christian communities that support academic excellence, spiritual growth, cultural humility, self-advocacy, and an appreciation for doing life together
  • Assist Acs/RHDs in providing support for Living-Learning Communities and faculty involvement (i.e. Faculty-in- Residence, Faculty Partner, and Faculty Steward)
Student Development
  • Develop meaningful relationships with student staff (Community Leaders) and maintain a high degree of visibility and availability for Community Leaders
  • Coordinate departmental responses to student behavioral concerns and incidents in the halls
  • Ensure departmental learning goals encompassing concepts such as life together, cultural humility, faith development, intellectual development, and self-advocacy, occur in their respective communities through intentional conversations and hall programming
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Serve in a rotating on-call leadership capacity, supervising Area Coordinators and Residence Hall Directors in crisis response protocol responses and follow-up of critical incidents on campus
  • Advise departmental committees and work groups, including but not limited to professional staff training, professional staff recruitment, student staff education, cultural humility programming, and recognition
  • Represent Campus Living & Learning on Student Life or other university committees and work groups
  • Participate in admissions, orientation, and student activities events and programs
  • Learn and use technology platforms, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, Persona, CSGold, CBORD, StarRez, Maxient, and other departmental website applications
Professional Development
  • Use professional development funds provided by Campus Living & Learning to engage and represent the department in opportunities such as reading or writing for professional publications, active membership in a regional and/or national organization, and attending and/or presenting at conferences
  • Attend Student Life and university professional development opportunities
Other
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor’s mission
  • Ability to comply with university policies
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
