The College of Arts & Sciences has an exciting opening for an Assistant Director for Development, Natural Sciences. This is a full-time permanent position.

The Assistant Director for Development, Natural Sciences is a key member of the College of Arts & Sciences Development Team focused on donor discovery and solicitation. In collaboration with Development colleagues supporting the Natural Sciences, this position will help plan, manage and direct advancement activities and efforts to secure gifts primarily from individuals. The Assistant Director will translate the college vision and strategic plan to diverse audiences and build strong relationships between prospective donors and the College of Arts & Sciences, resulting in opportunities to invest in students, faculty, programs and research.

This position will hold a portfolio comprised of individuals who have an interest in philanthropically supporting priorities in the Division of Natural Sciences, which comprises nine degree-granting departments: Applied Mathematics, Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Psychology, Speech & Hearing Sciences, Statistics.

What You Will Do
Frontline Fundraising (80%)
  • Identify and cultivate prospective donors, develop relationships and advance them through the donor continuum from discovery to gift conversion.
  • Build and sustain long-term partnerships and trust while aligning donor passion and goals with division and college priorities.
  • Manage a large portfolio of leads with the potential of raising major gifts. Solicit and close gifts across all levels.
  • Collaborate with frontline fundraising colleagues in Arts & Sciences and across the university to conceptualize, develop and implement strategies, activities and special events for supporting qualification and solicitation efforts.
  • Coordinate campaigns for strategic constituent groups.
  • Prepare, review and edit materials needed to secure and steward gifts.
  • Develop, lead and participate in donor cultivation and stewardship activities in collaboration with other advancement staff.
  • Ensure accurate and complete record-keeping and associated donor acknowledgements.
  • Represent the university at events or professional functions, as appropriate.
Strategy and Program Development (15%)
  • Assist in informing strategy development promoting philanthropic priorities.
  • Participate in annual planning, including goals, objectives and strategies.
  • Provide strategic leadership in designing and implementing advancement programs needed to sustain and increase university support.
  • Support marketing and communications efforts by developing marketing materials, editing and proofreading content, as needed.
Other Duties (5%)
  • Participate in College of Arts & Sciences events and activities as appropriate.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development activities.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree AND at least three years of experience in Advancement/Development or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous fundraising office or higher education experience.
  • Knowledge of alumni relations/development/advancement principles.
  • Demonstrated strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint for correspondence, special reports, spreadsheets, databases, forms, etc.
  • Demonstrated project management skills, with flexibility and initiative to manage a variety of tasks.
  • Ability to build relationships with a diverse set of partners and stakeholders (donors, volunteers and faculty).
  • Demonstrated creativity, organizational ability and attention to detail.
What You Can Expect
  • Hybrid schedule of three days in the office with two days eligible for telework per week.
  • Cubicle/Open workspace environment which may result in additional or higher levels of noise and visual distractions.
  • Workload and times may vary, including occasional evening and weekend hours, as necessary, on short or limited notice.
  • Access to regular and reliable transportation for local travel and willing to travel when necessary.
